I gave my nearly 6 month old (25th Oct) some baby porridge today (Contains milk powder, Wheat and Oats).
Within minutes, she had a red and blotchy rash round her mouth where the porridge had got on her face. It didn't spread and she seems happy in herself.
It's been 45 minutes now and the rash is going down π€·π»ββοΈ. She does have eczema and sensitive skin.
I can only assume whe has some sort of intolerance to one of the ingredients. She is breastfed and we have been having some "first tastes" for the last couple of weeks - just individual veggies and nothing else caused this, and I am using the same baby wipes to wipe her mouth so I know its not that.
What should I do? Should I continue to offer the same porridge and see if it happens again or should I try different foods with wheat, oat, dairy individually to rule out which one is causing it? Should I also consider gluten intolerance?

Milk and wheat are both common allergens that you've fed at the same time so I'd try them individually to identify the culprit.
My youngest has a milk allergy but it only presented as eczema before I fed it to him at 6 months while weaning. I didn't connect the eczema with an allergy as he had no other symptoms.

@Caroline I know π€¦π»ββοΈ I just assumed as breast fed and had no problems (other than eczema) we would be okay! Silly me!
That's really interesting!!
Thank you

yeah I'm breastfeeding too. Try going dairy free and it's likely you'll see an improvement in a month or so if the eczema is dairy related.

My little one is also EBF, she too came up with something similar that came down her chin where the food had also sat. If your daughter has sensitive / dry skin also it could just be a contact reaction from where the porridge had sat. Their skin is so sensitive anyway that it may just be from contact as it also went down so quickly, as did mine. I would recommend trying each allergen separately though before you give any more, just to rule out an allergy to either the milk or wheat xx
