Is there a wrong or right answer?

So last night I was cleaning the kitchen and then started cleaning the floors. I used bleach and water and was crawling around srubbing floors. My husband got upset and said I should wait until kids all go to bed. All the windows were open and it was a floral scented bleach so not even that strong of a scent. Should I really be waiting until my kids go to bed before I start cleaning? He's making me feel crazy that I can't clean with windows open if my kids are awake.

I would do the bleach when kids are asleep but cleaning is totally fine. But bleach I’m general isn’t great and even if the windows are open it’s still toxic. So I would wait. And I’d try to find another floor cleaning that’s not bleach

@Gabrielle during the warmer months I have to use bleach as everything else seems to attract the ants in our area. It was diluted so not even straight bleach and you could barely even smell it.

I don’t think this is a right or wrong thing. More of preference and seeing one thing differently. Your husband sees it as simply bleach and just probably prefer the kids not to be in the vicinity of it, lowest risk in falling, smelling, touching etc etc. and I see your point as well, windows open and you got an eye on everyone. Would it hurt to just wait until after the kids are sleep? You guys should be a team and y’all are both on team kids so don’t go to crazy lol

@Jay’Da thankfully the area I was cleaning is fully blocked off and they can't get to the area anyway. I had our 1yo in bed already. So it was just our 3 & 4yo up and our 6week old in his bed. If I had more energy I would've waited til they were all in bed lol. But since I'm up all night feeding our 6week old than had to work all day yesterday I was just trying to get as much done as possible before I went to bed. I was exhausted yesterday and just trying to get ahead of the ants this weekend. It's our 1st warm weekend and we were already seeing ants yesterday.

@Kimberly I see. I think you two should calmly talk about it and find a solution that works for both of you. Wether it would be a different cleaner or he does it lol

@Jay’Da that's sorta what I told him lol. I told him to take the baby to the room or he can stay up and do it after they are all asleep. So he took the baby to the room lol. I just hate this time of year because my house always smells like bleach or vinegar and I can't use normal cleaners

@Erica I was out of vinegar last night 😕 these ants vinegar doesn't work more than a few hours. They aren't the ants that are just looking for food and crumbs. We get them all summer and nothing keeps them away!

If you’re well ventilated and I assume you’re using proper ratios so it’s not a shit ton of bleach, you’re absolutely fine. You clean when you feel like it and get the chance.

Try Indorex flea spray for the ants. You can get it online or at the pet store. Just don’t use it near your kids, plants or pets and air the room out well afterwards. Try to work out their entry point and spray it right where they are coming in.

Im the same way! I can't clean without bleach. Just compromise by trying to use it when they're sleeping or not home 🤷🏾‍♀️

It was ventilated just fine, but I understand his concern. I think in this you pick your battles. You apologize and acknowledge his concern let him know you had no idea it bothered him so much. The floral scent has nothing to do with the fumes of the chemicals being inhaled, but if the kids can’t get to the bleach and it’s well ventilated I say it’s probably fine. But again, I’d respect your husbands concerns.

I mean I wouldn’t clean with bleach ever but I am extremely allergic & can’t breathe from even a little and get red all over, maybe try something less abrasive

No you’ll never get things done if you wait for bedtime because bedtimes your time in my book.

@Sharon entry point? These fuckers were coming through the cracks where my cabinets meet the walls and counter tops meet the walls. I've seen them coming out power outlets even! It's just our area this time of year. From now until September ish. My aunt had them in bad one year she pulled all her appliances out and ended up re-doing all the tile work in her kitchen because she got so frustrated! We have even got them in bedrooms that weren't being used.

@Kimberly Little buggers. Although you are seeing them everywhere, ants do tend to follow each other in a line, so you might have a hole or a crack or something back there that is letting them in. Try checking under the kitchen sink where the pipes go outside and just spray all around there. You could also try getting some bait traps to stop them coming in. The nest is probably in your garden, so if you can find it you can kill them at the source.

@Sharon so under the sink is 1 place they've never been even when we did have a leak. Go figure lol. They typically stay along the walls. We have an older house and the previous owners I think did alot of diy stuff not very good so they come through the baseboards even! We live in a semi desert climate so like today it's gonna be almost 80 but then Friday supposed to only be 50 and rain! It's a fun time of year. I put out Ant bait as we keep our kitchen and dining area off limits to the kidswith gates and that's where they always are for the most part. And then if our dog brings her food to the livingroom we get them out there too.

Can you see where they are coming in from the outside? When we had them, it turned out we had a big nest in the garden. The ant bait is good but takes time to work and you need to let them take the bait back to the nest, which means not spraying them or removing them for a few days (gross, I know).

@Sharon we've looked everywhere and find nothing outside. We've hired companies to spray outside too. It doesn't do anything. We've spent hundreds of dollars over the last few years since we've been in our house. It's crazy they aren't regular ants
