Has anyone else’s baby had this? It started on Friday 5am , we went to the A&E but they said it will go away on its own. My baby hasn’t eaten anything since . She only had 350ml milk that day and a little bit of breakfast in the morning.
Today she had nothing at all , just 400ml of formula.
She is very tired and cranky, crying most of the time and only wants me to hold her nonstop as she’s in pain .
Right now she keeps waking crying in pain and i believe it is her tummy that hurts .
Please tell me , im i missing something here , what should i do? Did your babies get antibiotics for this ?
My gut is telling me she should be put on antibiotics although they said that antibiotics won’t do anything as this is a viral infection not a bacterial infection.
They said the same last time she was ill at the A&E and when i went to her pediatrician he prescribed antibiotics and she felt better right away.
We are also in another city and we can’t go to her GP , we are 4h away and we won’t be back home until Monday :(

Aww bless you, when my daughter had tonsillitis at the start of the year it was just awful. Her temperature went to 40 and we had to call an ambulance in the middle of the night.
If it is her 100% tonsils, I would go back and demand antibiotics. We were prescribed Phenoxymethyl-penicillin which she had to take three times a day.
The course was 7 days and we started to see a difference after 3 days.
Really hope you get this sorted xx

I would go back too. Poor baby it sounds awful! My girl had tonsillitis and they did give her antibiotics thankfully & prescribed diflam spray which numbed the throat and helped so much x

great comment about the Difflam. I forgot they also prescribed that. It does help a lot x

Tonsillitis can be either viral (antibiotics will do nothing) or bacterial (its when the antibiotics are prescribed). They cant really know unless they do a swab and check I believe. There are indeed signs that shows if its either but not 100% accurate. I would go to gp or call 111 for another check. Good health to your little one ❤️

Only around every 2-3 cases of tonsillitis are bacterial unfortunately lovely so yeah the first point of call is usually none unless other markers are there like white spots on them, sickness as well as temp etc.
If babe felt better right away with antibiotics, it's likely it wasn't bacterial and babe didn't need them, as they take 2-3 days to work.
Inflammation and a temp isn't enough for it to be bacterial so it makes sense.
Keep up with fluids, it's fine if the don't eat, dehydration is much worse. Keep offering painkillers regularly per instructions, alternate every half so paracetamol every 2 say and ibuprofen in-between. You can ask about weight based doses rather than age too.
If UK based you can absolutely try 111 for a further opinion too xx

Thank you everyone for your answers, it’s been kindly appreciated! I haven’t had the time to reply because we were also ill and it turned out to be something viral and my husband and i we also had something the next day , vomiting and diarrhoea and he’s mom has got it too the following day.
Im not sure if baby also had this but it seemed to be a tummy bug 🤦🏻♀️
