Gestational Diabetes! Anoyone just not mentally handling and struggling to get low fasting readings.

Feel like I’m massively letting my little one down, been told to handle with exercise and diet. But even with a low reading at night I’m waking up with high readings in the morning.

I feel like I can’t eat anything in the evenings in fear of high reading for the morning and what it is doing to my little one

This is called the dawn phenomenon. If you're already not eating carbs in the evening, then tell your provider and they can advise. Usually, you just have some medication at bedtime and it fixes it. It's actually caused by hormones and your body breaking down its reserves to create sugar in the early morning but overshooting it, so it's not really your fault 🥺 x

it is not your fault! There is nothing you can do about that fasted reading unless you’re eating in your sleep. They genuinely asked me if I was having secret midnight snacks 🙄
I got put on Metformin just one before bed and after 2 weeks it brought that fasted reading down.
Also remember that growth scans are just educated guess work - they are not accurate so don’t be scared if they start saying baby is measuring big. I had a private scan for second opinion and my baby measured a completely different size! 93rd percentile with NHS, 53rd on private - scans we’re on the SAME DAY!

It’s all just precaution. You are NOT letting your little one down. It’s so common. You’re doing amazing! Xx
