Just found out I have Alpha Gal

For those who don’t know, you get Alpha Gal from a tick bite that makes you allergic to red meat/ mammal derived products (including gelatin and refined sugar) and dairy. That’s our whole diet. I barely see anything about recipes I can make that fits all of those needs:( I would rather not cook for them and then for me because not only would I need to deep clean and sanitize everything just so I can cook for myself, but fumes from the meat give me an allergic reaction as well. (Dizziness/lightheadedness, nausea and vomiting, swollen throat, etc) so I was wondering do any of you have alpha gal or know anyone who maybe does? I need more support and recipes… currently out of groceries and everything in this house that isn’t chicken has mammal or dairy…

Question….because I believe me LO is allergic to beef. Just found this out yesterday after giving it to him for the first time yesterday. Don’t think it’s from a tick bite though. Is there any medication they can give you to basically cure it since you have it from a tick bite? Were you aware you were bit?

I'm so sorry you're going through that! It sounds like you could have good luck with vegan recipes, as long as they don't contain sugar. There's a lot of vegan stuff out there these days!

I really like loveandlemons.com, which is a vegetarian website. Not all of her recipes will comply with your needs, but most of them should, or you can modify them.

I've heard some people with Lyme follow a modified Paleo diet (i.e. everything except the meat and animal products). I used to be paleo... again, sooo many recipes and websites out there! Don't worry, you got this!

I was aware that I was bit when I pulled the tick off of me, but I also could’ve had this for years and not know. There’s no cure for it, but there are new studies coming out with acupuncture but it’s three needles that have to stay in your ear for three weeks in order for symptoms to get better and maybe cure it but for little ones that might be dangerous.

thank you so much!!! I feel like I’m not looking in the right places!! Everything I see has at least 1 thing that I can’t have or so many ingredients that I don’t have.

Whoa! That’s crazy, I’ve not heard of this. My first thought is get a vegan cookbook and learn then basics of that diet but add in what you can eat like fish/poultry. I’m sorry this happened to you!

thank you!! I think I’m gonna stop today to find one. It’s so overwhelming but now I know why I’ve been feeling so bad. I’m getting an epi pen today bc apparently I’ve been having anaphylactic reactions. Not shock thank goodness but close

My dad had Alpha GAL. For 2 years. Then he got some crazy acupuncture and needles in his ears, now he eats bacon and steak again, milk too. Maybe worth looking into?

However, chicken, turkey, fish, duck, shrimp, eggs, tofu. All good options. You can also buy meatless burgers that taste like meat and they are delicious. There are also plenty of milk, butter and cheese replacements out there now. And you still have all the potatoes, rice, veggies and fruits to branch out into.
