Has anyone's baby had a reaction to tomatoes/red pepper?
We tried a red pouch from Aldi which is tomato and red pepper and his Eczema has flared up! He has Eczema anyway but it's gone so red an angry since having it ðŸ˜

I haven’t tried my son on this yet but I personally have an allergy to peppers (and chillis). I have various reactions depending on the contact I’ve had (touch, inhalation and digestion etc). It’s often red rash, itchy skin, puffy eyes, swollen tongue (worst case was the tongue as I was fed tobasco sauce as a prank). Quite often but not always, an allergy to peppers will also include allergy to tomatoes - can’t remember the exact name though. Personally I carry antihistamines at all times and have to read every damn packet but I’d perhaps refer to your GP first? Hope your little boy is feeling better soon :)

My Health Visitor said she often hears of babies reacting to tomatoes (she didn't mention peppers) just in case that's helpful to know.

@Becca it's a nightshade! Not normally an allergy just an intolerance (I work in hospitality so had allergy training!) I wasn't expecting it at all, but will speak to our GP, thank you!

@Kate that is good to know! My daughter wasn't like this when we weaned her and hasn't got any allergies so it surprised me when he had a reaction

that’s the one! Weirdly I’m not allergic to tomatoes but definitely worth getting checked over, it’s a very annoying allergy to have 😅 x

I’ve read that a lot of babies can have a skin reaction due to the acidity rather than it being an allergy? Deffo best to get it checked though. I have the same pouch in the kitchen and haven’t tried it yet for the same reason🤣

Yeah I said I was worried about testing egg and she basically said the two reactions she hears of most are cows milk and tomatoes! It was a brief conversation so I can't offer any help but thought it might reassure you. Maybe send the pic to your own HV if they gave you their mobile number? Hope baby feels better today x

I read something on solid starts that it causes a rash due to the acidity of tomatoes and allergic reaction are possible but actually quite rare xx
