Ear tubes

Has anyone’s baby had the ear tube surgery? My son has a recommendation but my husband is unsure if we should do it. We even got a second opinion who gave the same recommendation. I think we should. He’s had 8 ear infections in the last 5 months. He’s been diagnosed with speech delay. Even when he doesn’t have an ear infection the doctors sometimes see fluid in his ears. The most recent ear infection happened when he was still on an antibiotic for the other ear. I know there are risks with any surgery and other risks like the tubes leaving holes in the ears. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I can’t recommend it enough. Our son was the same, had back to back to back ear infections and the fluid in his ears was affecting his hearing. It was night and day different after getting the tubes. No infections since and we were shocked that suddenly he was enunciating and responding to us more because he could finally hear us! The doctor said it was like hearing underwater with all the fluid!

we had tubes placed for my son back in February! best thing ever. he hasn’t been sick AT ALL since & his speech has taken off so much. he’s such a chatter box now & before he hardly spoke bc he couldn’t hear! recovery was soooo easy. he took a giant nap afterwards & was back to his normal self in the same day. find someone you trust & i highly recommend.

Yes! My boy had 4 ear infections last year and got tubes. It's been a game changer.

We did it. She did not have ear infections but had visible fluid built up behind one ear drum, no response from ear drum during testing, and we had concern she may of had the same genetic thing as her dad which would require surgery. Best and quicker thing to start ruling things out was ear tube's. All went fine. It's such a simple and basic surgery.

Get it. It’s one of the most common procuedures. Multiple doctors are recommending it. It’s that, or he keeps getting ear infections and being sick. Being on antibiotics consistently isn’t good, either.

It can also affect hearing and speech, as you mentioned

Thanks for sharing your stories ladies. We are going to do the surgery.

Yes, my older son had four ear infections. His L ear had more issues than his R ear. We waited to see if it would get better after the second infection. When it wasn’t we decided to go ahead and schedule the surgery, then we had to wait on a long list for the ear tube surgery. He received the surgery and within a couple of days. His ears were draining fluid correctly. He also was in speech therapy. After getting the tubes placed he no longer needed to receive speech therapy. However, now he is 7. And at school they noticed he has some speech delays again. So, back in speech therapy again. I would 100% do the surgery. You had two doctors agreeing with that assessment.
