Milk Alternative

Hi Mama’s ! Did anyone give their LO almond milk as a alternative for formula after 1? Or do you advise to strictly stick with whole milk? I spoke to my pediatrician he said any milk is fine but whole milk has more fat. Please let me know your thoughts?

I attempted whole milk with my 1 year old and it seemed she had a lactose intolerance: so I then switched her to lactaid and my pediatrician said I didn’t have to give whole milk lactaid if she was eating a well balanced diet because she gets the fats from other foods, so I give almond milk sometimes and 2% lactose free milk!

I have always heard unsweetened fortified soy milk is the best non dairy alternative for toddlers. It has fat and protein and all the vitamins. My son loves it, we get it from Costco.

I have given almond milk , I first mixed it with water but honestly he’s fine even with it by itself. I never gave whole milk directly but he had yogurt when he was like 9m and his stomach got so messed up so I never gave him milk again. We haven’t used the almost milk as a full time replace though, he’s still on breast milk. I’m just testing other things

Yes i just started almond milk last week because she’s allergic to milk. Her pediatrician recommended it, he also recommended goat milk.

@Mikayla a lot of soy is highly processed pesticides. I would not give your toddler soy It’s rare to find real soy not full of chemicals.

Soy is not good for anyone really I wouldn’t recommend that. My baby is still breast feeding , I can’t pump so when I’m gone for work she has almond milk or oat milk :) oat milk is more creamy

Almond milk is not nutritionally similar. I wouldn’t lean on it for nutrition as a substitute for formula. And yes, keeping the fat is a good thing! I hope you find what works for your family!

I give my son unsweetened organic soymilk. It has more protein, but he mainly has breastmilk and maybe has soymilk 1 once a week if that.

We use ripple kids unsweetened plant based milk. It has closer nutrition value to whole milk but plant based

My baby is allergic to dairy and the most suggested replacement is soy with added vit D. Has more of what baby needs. I personally got the go ahead to give her what I want because of her diet she gets all she needs from her food. If they don't have a problem with whole milk that should be the go to because it will have most of what they need. If they eat a balanced diet though I don't think you need to worry to much. If they are a picky eater I'd do whole milk

So this was a challenging decision for me. Baby boy can't handle whole milk and I kept hearing mixed things about soy. And then you have to factor in baby preferences. Ripple is also a good option made of pea protein. Chobani makes extra creamy oat milk which has the fat content baby needs. I mix both of them for my kids because I've found that's what they like the best and gives them the nutrition they need. My pediatrician is happy with this combo!

I give my 1 year old goat milk. It is more similar to human breast milk. It has more fat and protein than whole cows milk.
