Hi, I want peoples thoughts on my birth story. I’m a first time mum and I went into labour a couple months ago. I dealt quite well with my contractions initially, and finally went to the hospital when I was apparently 8-9cm dilated. I was taken to labour ward and continued on with my contractions. After a while the midwife kept asking me if I was ready to push, I didn’t feel ready to push and wasn’t sure so kept saying that I didn’t know. Eventually she checked me and said I was 10cm so told me to push. I did this for an hour and half and nothing was progressing. The doctor was called in and they checked and I wasn’t 10cm, so I had been pushing too early.
Obviously I was a mess and exhausted at that point so they said they’d give me an epidural. They took me for epidural and then 5 minutes after the epidural took it out to give me a spinal block for theatre. Baby was in distress and I’m assuming there had been some miscommunication because the anaesthetist apologised for me for not realising something (don’t remember what)
Had my baby via forceps and all is well now, but am I wrong for feeling like the initial midwife failed me by getting me to push too early and also just the epidural for 5 minutes. I know these things can’t be helped but just not sure what to think of it.

You should ask for a debrief - the midwife’s can go through your notes and explain what happened to you and it could help you understand and piece it all back together. And ask them questions like that. It really helped me

Jessop’s tried to kill me off three separate times. Yes I agree ask for birth in mind, your HV can refer you. It will help you to fully understand what happened.

Exactly the same happened to me but I was induced first and had sepsis when telling me to push an I was only 8cm rushed down for c section x
