I’m planning a short trip before the baby arrives. Only a domestic 3.5 hour flight. But my partner can’t take time off until late June. I’m 22 weeks now and feel fine to travel but it’s definitely getting uncomfortable so I don’t know how big I’ll get and if I can sit through a 3.5 hour flight by wk 30. What has your experience been? Thoughts? Tips?

As long as your pregnancy is progressing normally, DO IT!!

I took a 7 hour road trip at 36 weeks. I just spoke to my midwife about it and she said I’d be fine, just for peace of mind it might be worth having everything with me and researching the hospital near where I was travelling just in case something happened. I had a really smooth pregnancy anyway so it was all fine.
If I was you I would speak to your health care team to get their opinion on it before going on your trip

I did Jamaica at 30 weeks, wasn’t bad! Wear compression socks, walk the aisles of the plane (a bathroom break is inevitable 🤣) stay hydrated and take advantage of priority boarding if the airline has it!

If it’s your first go for it you’re more than likely not going to have the baby till around 40-41 weeks but you’ll probably have to lie about how far along you are to get on the plane because some airlines don’t let pregnant women that are too close to labor fly for the sack of them not wanting you to have the baby in a different country.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone 🙏
My feet are prone to swelling even before I pregnancy. So I wear compression socks everytime I fly, even for short flights. I’ll get clearance from my doctor to fly, I doubt it’ll be an issue.
I’m more wanting to hear everyone’s experience with flying 3-4 hours at this stage. How comfortable/ uncomfortable it is sitting in economy for that duration, seat belts, risks of blood clots, nausea from the air pressure, etc.

go you!
Can I ask how long was your flight? Sitting in the seat with the seat belt on wasn’t too bad for you?
I’ll be flying economy and domestically interstate within Australia so the seats are pretty small haha. I don’t think I can even open the tray table with my belly in the way.

I flew 3 hrs to Boston to go on my last trip by myself. Flight was easy. I walked several miles a day and drove up to Maine as well. I made pit stop along the way to get out and walk. I also drove across the country at 32 weeks. It took 6 days of driving about 6-8 hrs a day. Exhausting and very uncomfortable but I had no choice. Just make sure to walk every 2 hours and drink and eat plenty.

I did a 12 hour flight at 30 weeks, you’re good. Like you said, compression stockings, lots of water and upgrade your legroom xx

At this stage I think it’s hard to know how you will be feeling at 30 weeks. I was always classed as a low risk pregnancy until 28 weeks and since then have been in hospital multiple times due to reduced movements and have been having scans every two weeks. You can always book it but make sure you can claim a refund/ change the date if needed x

the longest leg of the flight was 3.5 hours and nope the seatbelt adjusted fine & I was very round lol. If I needed a tray I used my partners because like you said, belly was in the way. Once I got the green light from my Dr, we went for it!
