Godparents?

I’m just seeking a little advice about what’s everyone’s take on asking family or friends to be Godparents? I have a long time best friend of 10+ years and my oldest sister who I would love to be my daughter’s Godmother. Is it appropriate for my daughter to have two godmothers? Like are their traditional rules to having godparents?

God parents, traditionally, are assigned to help the child along their religious journey. If you aren't assigning them for that specific reason, then traditional rules don't matter. Hope this helps.

Also wanted to add: I know a lot of people think God parents are who the child(ren) go to if something happens to the parents and this is actually not the legal case. If you want them to go to their "godparents" you have to put it in writing, get it notarized, and file it with your county.

@Lisa-Marie yes! I found that out recently thank you for telling me. Religiously my oldest sister and my best friend share the same religion as myself so that works out

We asked my brother to be godfather and a very close friend to be the godmother. Both have been confirmed in the Catholic Church, but don’t follow closely. However, we felt that each of them has a world view and set of values that align with our own, and we see the role of godparent being such that they act as another guide in life when the child can’t or won’t turn to the parents. Hope this helps!

If it makes you feel better, my son has 4 Godparents because I couldn't just pick 2 lol
