Straight baby teeth, worried after what someone said

My little girl has straight baby teeth! I haven't thought anything about it, but we were out yesterday and she smiled at this lady and the lady didn't smile back, just said, 'oh look at your perfect little smile, when those big teeth come in,they are going to be so so crooked and look such a mess, you need more gaps! Laughed and walked off! Now I've gone into a Spiral googling, thinking my poor little girl doesn't have big enough gaps for her big teeth! I just dont understand why people have to say mean things about other peoples children! If they think something or not, just dont say it đź’”! Does anybody else little ones not have big gaps between their teeth xx

I've never heard anything like this? How could she possibly know how her big teeth will be? My son only has a slight gap between is two front teeth and I put that down to his dad having a gap there so he's got it🤣 People need to wind their necks in and quit making remarks about other people's babies , to me even if my sons teeth do grow in crooked there's always options to fix them if he wishes , I had braces as a teen! I'm sure everything will be fine but that would've bothered me too someone saying that about my baby 💔 if you're super worried maybe get a dentists opinion? 💙x

Never know that to be a thing.. surely their mouths grow so there will be more room?

Sounds like a mumma is jealous and takes it out on you by being spiteful. Don’t take it to heart. Especially if she laughed!

Wow I can't believe someone would say that. I don't think there is anything you can do to control the teeth.

That is the stupidest comments I've ever heard!🤣 baby teeth move around a lot anyway to fit in the mouth and also when you LO big teeth come in she will have a bigger mouth to accommodate them! Sounds like a nasty passer by! I wouldn't worry at all!x

Ok so just for information it certainly can be relevant - I highly doubt it’s a one size fits all and affects all kids. And it certainly isn’t the be all and end all.. but the idea is that no gaps between the baby teeth can mean the palate is narrower which will mean there’s less room for the adult teeth to come in straight. It often comes hand in hand with tongue tie/oral restriction because the tongue may not rest and suction to the roof of the mouth like it’s supposed to - and this rested position helps to keep the palate shape. In our case, my 2yr old has got gaps but he’s always had a tongue tie and although he breathes through his nose at night his tongue doesn’t rest high on his palate so I just bear it in mind for future. When he’s a little older I may possibly look into a myo munchee or similar device to encourage good tongue posture and jaw function

and if we think his palate is narrow then when he’s older and more understanding we’d do gentle palate expansion whilst he’s still young and everything is easily mobile. Early intervention is often kinder/easier/and can mean they won’t need more lengthy interventions like full braces or extractions or anything. I had my braces aged 24-27 so I’m a little more hyper aware of just wanting my boy to have an easy life when older. But it’s not worth stressing about now.. they’re at an age where nothing could be done anyway. I think the best thing you can do is read into myofunctional therapy and understanding of the mouth/jaw/tongue and just arm yourself with the knowledge. You likely won’t need it! But still very handy to know and what to look out for! That being said -the woman who said that to you is an absolute asshole putting their 2p in where not needed so sorry that happened 💩 Hope this info can be of some sort of help- it’s just based on lots of research as it’s on my radar too:)

Same here amy! Do you follow dr Seb lomas on instagram? I also agree that this woman is an asshole! Saying stuff like that to a child is disgusting and I’m sorry you both experienced that! Xxx

@Lucy YES and he would absolutely be my dentist in a heartbeat if I lived up north !

I actually had a consult with him last month. Travelled quite far lol. 🫣He’s so brilliant! I’m doing his myofunctional adult course and will def take my son to see him when I can! X

Coming from a dental nurse this is absolute RUBBISH

@Demi🌸 this makes me feel so much better, thank you ❤️! I know these things can be corrected if it was to be true, but she's made me nonstop think about it! X
