Camping while pregnant

Has anyone gone camping during there pregnancy? I’ll be around 19 weeks when my husband and I go on a short camping trip Up North in a few weeks. I’m so excited since we haven’t even travelled since February and I’ve been telling all my friends and family about it. The first reaction I’ve been getting is “But your pregnant”. Next comes “you’re going to be so uncomfortable” and “you really shouldn’t travel like that”.
I feel energized enough and I know what to bring to be as comfortable as possible since I’ve been camping for years. We have an air mattress with a massive canvas tent for shelter and the I already have the snacking list I’ll need to pick up before we go.
Should I feel guilty that I want to go camping and travel just a few hours from home? Is life really supposed to just stop because you’re pregnant? Our ancestors trekked their children all over the world in tents. What was your experience camping while pregnant? Did you get this much crap from people when telling them about a trip you have planned?

Definitely go enjoy it if you feel up to it! I went camping early on while pregnant and it was great to get away and have some “reset” time. 19 weeks should be a safe and good time to go as that’s normally when you’re feeling really good!

I just went last week at 16 weeks. I had a great time. Only thing was I had to pee alot so I brought a funnel to help when we were hiking away from the bathrooms. You absolutely shouldn't stop enjoying life because you are preg. Just listen to your body and let your hubby do the heavy lifting ❤️

I went camping in my second trimester. Would only not recommend it towards the end. It was great! Fresh air is good. Bring lots of snacks and hydration. Maybe compressions socks if your going to high elevation.

yes! That’s what I was saying to everyone is I feel better than I did weeks ago, I want to take advantage of this and enjoy some time away

pee funnel!! I forgot all about that! I actually have one in our camping gear, thanks to 2020 😂

thank you! That’s exactly what I was thinking if I’m just going to have to pee more, eat more and drink more than I ever have. I plan to keep the hiking to a minimum and do a lot of fishing. I told my husband one day I don’t want to leave camp and just chill and he was completely down with that

Do it! I totally did. Only difference is nobody else knew I was pregnant yet. It was certainly a lower key camping trip than my normal. Take it easy and leave space for tired. Have as much fun as you feel up too!

thanks girl! Especially being pregnant, I know my limits and figured worst case if we have to hang out at the site for a whole day and relax in the woods, it’ll probably be better than sitting at home

Avatar

for sure! And you'll probably be able to enjoy some short hikes too!

Yes we did a few times - and it was largely good.
But I do remember really worrying about breathing in smoke from the fire we built at night tho, and ended up sitting inside the tent more than I usually would for that reason!
