How do you feed twins at night?

I was just thinking when the twins are here I’m going to be breast feeding constantly. Am I going to be feeding one after the other or do others feed them both at the same time? Can I do that when they’re so small though as I thought they’d need more support

I wandered this too!

Feed both at once. Get yourself a good feeding pillow like the peanut and piglet or similar. I fed mine tandem from being born (34 weeks once one other came home) and it was so much easier with a pillow. You ou get used to lifting one handed too so I can easily swap babies as and when I need to. Also start off on the floor as that’s easier and feels safer. I spent the first three months sleeping on the floor 😂

@Laura Byrne is the hole (the part your torso goes in) small enough? I had issues with the twin Brest Friend pillow where the hole in the middle is way too big even with strap adjustments.

Yeah it’s fine. I have a luggage strap around sometimes because mine is fifth hand so is stretched a bit. Perfect with the strap and now they’re six months old we don’t even use that anymore.

@Bronwyn good luck. Mine has stopped speaking to me because I asked for help at night with the triplets 😂

@Laura Byrne super mumma you are 😭 that picture is really cute

If you're able to, tandem feeding is a great option so you don't feel like you're constantly feeding. I tried my best and did it at the beginning, but then my baby girl had to be admitted to the nicu for not eating, she just wasn't interested. While in the nicu I ended up pumping before feeds and would give each twin some breastmilk followed by some formula. Unfortunately, I was not producing enough for both my twins and had to supplement formula early on to get them both fed. You'll find what works best for you, and most definitely ask for the lactation consultant at the hospital, they are a great resource and will help you find a way to make sure both babies get fed in a way where all 3 of you are comfortable. Good luck!!!!

Absolutely both at the same time or you will literally be constantly feeding. Get you a z-pillow mama. Absolutely worth it. And also, do not put too much pressure on yourself. Producing for 2 babies is HARD. A lot of us have to supplement and that is okay. From the day they were born I told myself "I will do what I can, when I can, and when I can't, thats okay. They will be healthy and happy either way, they need a healthy and happy mom"

It's easier to feed them both at the same time, but it takes practice and becomes easier over time. At the beginning of my breastfeeding journey, I fed them one by one. Don't stress about doing it all at once. For some reason, there is a lot of pressure on twin moms to master this from day one, but it shouldn't be that way. In my experience, my babies were comfortable and secure eating at the same time around 5-6 months, and I did use breastfeeding pillows, but not for that long.

Do you guys think I could do one baby latched and then the other I can pump milk for? Just trying to think of all my options, I know feeding both at the same time might be the best option but I have a feeling I could potentially struggle with it x

Yes you can do that. I feed two and then one and pump with the other. Essentially feeding four 😂
