What are people’s thoughts on rusks is it too early to try our 4.5 month old on them to help her feel fuller ? She’s a hungry girl but when we give her anymore than 6 oz she is just sick

NHS recommends against giving baby rusks, I think they're quite sugary

They’re full of sugar so not recommended at all. How often does she feed? Maybe try and give her an extra bottle somewhere if you can. Introducing food doesn’t particularly make them feel fuller either, it’s a bit of a myth x

We have got the ones with less sugar is that any better ?

Ohhh ok she feeds
4am
8am
12pm
4pm
8pm
Sometimes have to give her a top up at 6pm
Which is normal for a baby 4.5 months I would say x

My other half mixes some of his formula in a bowl with a bit of rusk crushed into it and he's been okay with it. He maybe only has a few small spoonfuls though

but he’s ok with it. What age is your little one

@Zoe he's 4 months today. He's only started this past week with a little bit most days.

I wouldn’t give rusks. They are full of sugar - even the “lower” sugar ones & don’t really have much nutritional value. I would wait until your baby is closer to 6 months when her gut is more developed. If she’s hungry, offer more milk feeds x

she is just sick if we give her more so that’s why we were thinking rusk. Why sell them for 4+ months if full of sugar and not for 6months

If she’s sick then she’s clearly not hungry :) lots of baby food is full of sugar & essentially not good for them. They sell it because people will buy it. Just the same way supermarkets sell junk food & sweets. They don’t have an obligation to sell healthy food. It used to be recommended that babies were weaned at 4 months but that advice has since changed due to updated research. However the companies make millions from baby food so aren’t going to stop making 4 months + foods & lose revenue x

It’s recommended not to give any solids until 6 months as their digestive system isn’t developed enough/ready before 6 months.

@Brogan I had an appointment with the health visitor about a month ago and she said if he's got hand eye coordination and can keep his head steady we can try him on pureed things. Other than not being keen on the textures, he's doing pretty well with it

You could put baby rice in her bottles xx

that’s not recommended as it’s a super choking hazard. The nipple of the bottle can get clogged. As well as, if you poke holes into the nipples, it can choke the baby who doesn’t know how to swallow beyond milk.

because they want to make money off parents that’s all it is

try feeding every 3 hours instead and see if that helps. Why are you trying to keep her fuller? You’ve not said. As someone else said, she won’t be hungry if she’s being sick and just feeding because it’s there. It’s normal for them to feed every 3-4hrs, sometimes more if they’re having a growth spurt so it all seems normal.
Definitely don’t mix milk with rusks or baby porridge, it’s a HUGE chocking risk. Milk is all they need until 6m unless advised to wean early.

you can just use a fast flow teat and I’m from poland where they recommend to wean from 4 months starting with baby rice and then moving to purées xx

I am waiting for 6 months to wean only because that is the advice in the uk where I currently live however this advice clearly varies from country to country xx

interesting. I honestly didn’t know that, especially with the cereal in a bottle. I know here, it’s old/outdated information. My mom’s a nurse and recommended I do cereal in the bottles for my kids and my doctor corrected her and said “it’s not recommended anymore”. I knew countries were different, but I never realized how different. Also adding, I wasn’t saying it to be rude. I just was worried about the potential of wrong information given. And apologize if it came off as offensive.

Nws it’s crazy how advice varies so much between countries xx
