Dog stressed with new baby
My dog is my first baby and we now have a 3 week old baby boy. We tried to prepare our dog for baby, playing crying noises etc and he never seemed bothered at all. Although once baby was actually here he seems to be getting really stressed with the crying. He has gone off his food and just doesn’t seem like his usual self, not playing with his toys etc. he also won’t even really come up to the baby and just keeps his distance. I’m trying to still give him loads of attention but he doesn’t seem to want it.
It’s making me feel so upset because he used to be my little shadow and I’m so worried about him. I’m so hoping it will get better. Does anyone have any advice 😔 xx

We had this with our 1st baby, he was like it a for weeks/ month and then he slowly went back to his usual self . He wouldn’t come near me, went off food, it’s a big change for them. He will be fine 🐶 xxxx
If baby is only a few weeks old it will take time for your dog to adjust playing baby sounds and actually hearing a baby is completely different for them. I have no advice as my lot seemed to adjust well but I’m putting that down to their breed (they’re malinois). If you’re feeling worried you can always speak to a behaviourist and get some tips but I’m sure he will be fine🫶🏻
Thanks everyone really appreciate your advice ❤️ I guess you see so many videos online of dogs who just take to the baby straight away and I thought my dog would be like that too as he is so loving!
I have been giving him all the space he needs and hopefully he will come round in time xx
Could you put something of babies like a blanket they’ve used in your dogs bed - would help get used to their smell was just something someone told us.
My two took a little time to get used to our little one - they had been the babies of the family previously! - one of mine struggles with change and it has taken him a while
I wish mine had been like all those videos you see of dogs being super loving but I think really it’s a massive change for them and takes time.
I think my too started to like little one more once he started weaning and eating as they could snuffle any dropped food 🤦♀️🤣 x
