Hi, my son’s 13 months and he hasn’t been swimming. He has quite bad eczema which has put me off taking him as it says on Google that chlorine can irritate it, just wondering if anyone else’s babies have eczema and how they’ve been with chlorine?

I had eczema as a kid (still there but not all the time), and skin dries up in chlorine pools. I still have to be very diligent with lotion after or I’ll have a flare up. I would avoid pools if there is an active flare up, and if not be sure to put a good sensitive skin no smell moisturising lotion on the whole body right after the swim.

We just make sure that we take his body wash and lotion / eczema cream with us to swimming and do a full wash in the showers, then put his cream on before I get him dressed. Before we did this his arms and legs were so dry and sore, but it made an instant change when we started doing a full wash and lotion. It adds 15 mins to getting ready after his swimming lesson, but it's stopped the flare ups

I’m not sure if this would help but could you apply a barrier cream to the patches beforehand? Our little girl has a super thick oily moisturising cream for her eczema which would just have water bead off it once applied. I only take her when her skin is in good condition but that’s because she doesn’t have it all the time. If she did, I would try that xx

I have eczema and I hate the chlorine but I’d say rinse him off after the pool to take away the chlorine and use his creams … but I would also say if it’s flared up atm to just avoid taking him until it’s cleared up bcos it will probably just irritate it but that’s ofc with my own experience and all eczema is different

We took my little boy swimming last week and the chlorine gave him a flare up. Deffo recommend their creams if you do go to help prevent. I’ve definitely been put off swimming for a while just because the flare up was so bad this time round!

Thank you everyone, definitely going to wait until his eczema has calmed down abit as he still gets very itchy especially in this warmer weather
