Traveling 29-30 week (Punta Cana)
Hi! I’m due on August 27 and I planned a baby moon with my husband for June 15th. We decided to spend a week at a resort in Punta Cana, and I had done so much research to make sure traveling at 29 weeks was safe, and that punta cana was safe for diseases (Zika). I asked my Dr and he said it’s very safe for me to go. However since booking some friends and my in-laws have said that it’s not safe, and why are we taking the risk if we don’t have to.
Has anyone else travelled at 29/30 weeks, and do you know if punta Cana is safe from Zika? Everyone’s opinions are stressing me out. 😔

I would politely tell them to f off. Your Dr has given you the all-clear. You feel well enough to go. Go and have a great time!
Wear compression socks and walk around on the plane.

The Dominican Republic is on the CDC’s list of countries with a current or past Zika transmission. However, most recent research shows that the risk from Zika is small in the third trimester.
Honestly, only you can make the decision. Maybe have a word with your doctor before you go?

I went to Mexico at 26 weeks and everyone was telling me not too! There was not one mosquito there. It really is a personal choice. Just do plenty of research online check which areas would be cleaner and bug free. I also messaged people I had seen on social media that had also been to Mexico whilst pregnant and that really helped. You’ll be fine, have a great time!

It’s hard to find info on Zika online. I had seen CDC’s site but specifically for the Dominican Republic it says no active case in the past few years. Does anyone have different information?
