I am going to be 29 weeks tomorrow and was diagnosed with gestational hypertension a couple of weeks ago. Due to being diagnosed so early, my doctor mentioned they may have to induce labor at any time now, depending on how my baby and I are doing. I have to get monitored 2 times a week from 2 different doctors now up until I go into labor. She said the earliest she would want to do it is 30 weeks, but the goal is to make it to 36 or 37 weeks. I am freaking out at the thought of having my baby early and him being stuck in the NICU and something happening to him while he is there. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them, or have you recently been told anything similar? I'm at a loss on what I should do. I noticed my blood pressure spikes at work due to stress, so I am on the verge of taking my leave early to try to control my blood pressure a little better and hopefully get further along, but I want to make sure we are financially prepared since I only have unpaid leave. I also only have so much time on my leave, so I'm worried about taking it too soon and not having enough time when he is actually here. I am still debating if I am going to be going back to that job afterward or if I am going to try to find a night job so I can watch him during the day. I hate the thought of putting my son in daycare at such a young age, especially if he is going to be a preemie. Here's a picture of his sweet face I got the other day. I can't wait to meet him, but I'm hoping it's at the right time where he will be perfectly healthy.

Learn more about our guidelines.@Clarissa Is that something you asked your doctor about, or did they say you should be on it so you don't get worse? This is my first child, so I'm a little confused about how everything works. I just started my leave paperwork yesterday to see what I am eligible for and am still waiting to hear back. My supervisor only mentioned unpaid leave to me, but maybe I do have that option.

My 2nd I had gestational hypertension but not very early on. Blood pressure was rising from 28 weeks on. At 34 weeks I was high risk. 35 weeks I was put on medication and given steroids for his lungs. 36 weeks medication was not working so they emergency induced. Now with my 3rd I already have gestational hypertension at 28 weeks and also very scared about having baby girl early. Things aren’t looking good about keeping her in. They want to get me to a minimum of 34 weeks but goal is also 36-37 weeks. I just want to make it to July at this point. I am so sad I’ll likely have a baby in the NICU

I have gestational hypertension, was diagnosed at 10 weeks, and was put on medication ever since. Which has controlled it, and I’ve been closely monitored ever since.

What has your blood pressure been?
@TY When I'm home, it stays in the 130/80s and low 140/90s. The past week, when I'm at work, it stayed in the 140/90s and had been peaking in the 150/90s almost every shift. The doctor originally told me to go to the ER for anything 150/100, but my other doctor just changed it to if I hit 160/110. The bottom number hasn't been close, but the top number has been. I feel like my peaking number has just been getting higher over the weeks. I was put on a low dose high blood pressure medication for a week, which helped it a little, but I was told by my other doctor not to take it. They only want me to be on that medication when I am admitted to the hospital so they can monitor me. She said she is worried about masking anything that could be going on by using the medication.
