Advice on how to break on bond of being in a relationship with a alcoholic. I grew up with alcohol around me 24/7. Theres a-lot of trauma and bad experiences with alcoholics in my life. My kids dad is now the same way. Everyday drinking and lying, sneaking the drinks. The blame games. It’s so hard to break the connection even with all the hurt he has caused our family. We have 4 kids and one on the way. I feel so defeated and depressed. I have no friends that understand or care to be there for me.

Alcoholics anonymous has programs not just for alcoholics, but for spouses and family members of alcoholics as well. Many nonprofits have similar programs and you may be able to find one in your area. If you live in a very remote area or these programs don't work for you, individual therapy can be a safe space for you to unpack some of the issues you've faced. You can look for someone that specializes in alcoholism, but the most important thing is finding someone you feel safe and comfortable talking to. This truly happens to so many people, and you don't need to feel alone in your experience.

Appreciate it. I was in therapy for a few weeks and i think was helping me make progress but got sick and then they were closed so wasn’t able to go. I definitely need to start back because he literally got off at work at 1pm today and just got home at 7pm pretty plowed. it was embarrassing and had to tell him to shower and go to bed to keep the kids from seeing him like this. It’s so frustrating.
