Hating having a dog after baby

Ok so no mean comments please!

Pre pregnancy loved our dog, we have a cavapoo don’t love him as much as my husband but I did love him to bits
Pregnancy I started hating him more, he smells, every noise he made, the barking everything!
Now the baby is here I’d hoped that feeling would have gone away but it’s still there if not even more..

I cannot stand him. Part of me feels sorry for him but most of me just wants him out of the way. He went away to my in laws for over a week and it was BLISS!
I missed his presence but I loved just having a clean house no dog hair no dog barking at EVERY SINGLE sound.
No whining just me the baby and my husband. And even more so because the dog wasn’t there my husband had more time for us, not having to walk him, take him to the toilet etc.
now he’s back home and it’s super annoying. I don’t want him in every room with us, I feel super bad because I know people will think I’m evil for feeling this way: but

I want to rehome him for his sake, it’s not fair to him having crazy me not want him around and my husband has said he will but I can tell he doesn’t want to and I don’t want him to resent me down the line.

I seriously wish we never got a dog.

Anyone else going through the same thing?xx

Probably not quite to the extreme as that but my dog’s barking annoys me more now than it did before ahaha. I still love them dearly.
How many months PP are you? I personally wouldn’t make any big decisions rehoming just yet your hormones are likely all over the place still.
Maybe try bonding with the dog again? They can pick up on negative energy

I do love him! I just really enjoyed life without him there. And I’m 6 weeks PP. tbh I felt this way pre pregnancy as he’s always been a barking whining dog and I couldn’t stand it.. now it’s just even more annoying. I like the idea of a dog and baby but the time he was away was so lovely. I have tried bonding with him but it just feels so forced, he knows I don’t like him anymore bless him can tell by the way he acts around me. I’ve also always been a little bit of a germaphobe and getting a dog was to help me get out of that but it actually made it worse 🫣 I hate finding his hair downstairs or the sound of his claws on the floor is the worst! 😕

If you make sure your husband definitely doesn't mind rehoming, I think that's best, for the dog and your own sanity. Maybe the dog can be rehomed within the family? That way your husband wouldn't entirely miss out. If we needed to re-home ours I know my mum or my in-laws would happily take him on and I'd be relieved we could still see him.

Ahhh I see that’s quite sad 😕 on one hand I’d be thinking ‘we got this dog I need to take care of him regardless it’s our responsibility’. I’m curious as to why you hate him so much? Are you not a pet person ?
Do you stroke him etc?…

Personally I’d just never agree with rehoming unless you absolutely couldn’t look after the dog. I used to volunteer in a dog’s trust and the way the dogs acted once they were abandoned there was heartbreaking. Dogs are a part of the family and they have zero clue what they’ve done wrong and why you’re treating them like this. A dogs natural instinct is to want to please you.
Why dont you all go out with the dog ? We take the dog for a big walk over the park all 3 of us every weekend. And like someone else said make an effort to bond with the dog. Unfortunately dogs do have hair, so maybe dedicate dog only spaces now ? We rarely have ours upstairs anymore and definitely not in babies room so she knows boundaries. 6 weeks ppl is very early and I know a lot of people felt like this towards their pets. Hormones are raging and i definitely wouldn’t make a decision now

It’s very common to feel this way after having a baby but it does usually pass once your hormones have settled and you adjust to your new life. This post has some advice https://www.instagram.com/p/CzY1UqpLtds/?igsh=aTdydjBwZXp2dWFi

I felt like this towards my dog for months 😩 I had my baby 7 months ago and I hated everything about the dog when I brought my baby home which was strange because he was treated like my 1st baby. I was the same, I wanted him locked out of the same room as us and I didn’t smooth him. I wanted to rehome him too but my partner wouldn’t let me. I’ve got to say it really does get better! The baby loves the dog now and giggles at him. He sits on my lap in the evenings again when the baby is in bed and I’ve started to love him again. I would persevere as I’m so grateful we didn’t rehome him x

I’ve been having similar feelings. Unfortunately my husband is deployed so I have to look after his husky in addition to our 2 month old. Thank you for posting. It’s nice to know I’m not alone and that it does get better

I had this with my cat! And I felt so bad because my cat never did anything wrong I just didn’t like it and I can’t explain why. It did improve as my daughter got older but it’s still not the same as it was before I got pregnant.
Probably not what you wanted to hear…
