Natera bill

Natera is trying to charge me $500 for the NIPT test. This seems excessive! I did NIPT about a year and a half ago through a different company when I was pregnant with my son, and it wasn’t even half that much. My doctor said they switched to Natera and it should be about the same, but Natera is saying it’s out of network with my insurance (BCBS) and that my copay is $493 out of the $3,900 original charge. I called and asked what their cash pay rate is, and the lady put me on hold then hung up. Also, I’m 44 so I’d think my insurance should definitely consider this test as necessary for me. What’s the best way to dispute it? What did they charge you?

That seems extremely high, my Natera bill (insurance is Aetna) was not covered so I paid out of pocket and it was around $270

My natera bill was 600 but my insurance covered the majority of it luckily. My OB did say if you are having trouble talk to the OB office, they work/negotiate that. My one caveat is different offices and insurances will help you at different levels

The cash price was around $200 or something like that back when I got it in 2022. My insurance denied the claim and Natera sent me a bill with the cash price a few months later without me having to contact them. I would continue to contact them or wait until they send you a bill. Don’t pay the $500!

How long after you had it done, did it take for them to send the bill? I had it done but haven't received anything yet.

@Melissa I think maybe a month and a half.

@Rebecca Thanks. I didn’t realize going through the OB office was an option. I messaged them and they gave me the number for the lady who is the OB office’s rep for Natera. I’ll call her today.
