Nipple piercing

So I have a nipple piercing and just wondering if I need to take it out before I have the baby? Obviously I know I will need to take it out to breast feed but is it necessary before that?

I don't know if you need to, but I had mine done and took it out when I was about 8 weeks pregnant with my first. I was worried about my nipples getting bigger and the bar going inside. I guess you could always ask at a piercing place and they might be able to give you a longer, plastic bar or something, which will give you room to grow. I don't know if it'll impact breastfeeding if you leave it in longer. I struggled to feed on my left, the one I had pierced, don't know if that was to do with the piercing or just my daughters preference x

Omg how do you still have them in?? 😱 I had to take mine out at about 15 weeks because like Sam said, my nipples got a bit bigger and the bar was going inside and they were soooo painful I could have cried. So gutted but I was going to take them out anyway due to breastfeeding and having to take them out and put them back in every time I feed would drive me up the wall 😂

My boobs started to swallow up my bar didn't last long before I had to abandon the piercing altogether 😆

@Dana my bar has always been too big to be honest and is only just now looking like the right size for my nipple 😅 maybe I will have to take it out if they keep growing... I know I will have to take it out once baby girl is here but wanted to keep it in for as long as possible in the hope that it potentially won't close up? Just wasn't sure if it's recommended to take it out or not?

@Sam I was told when I had it done about 9 years ago that it would actually be better for breast feeding as more holes for the milk to come out of so will make it easier for baby 😂

That's interesting!! I don't know how long mine took to close up, but I imagine it was quickly. I took it out once to clean it while I was in the shower, when I finished the shower it had closed up. I had to have it re pierced.. so when I took it out in pregnancy I just gave up on it x

Ah that makes sense 😅 if it doesn’t cause any irritation or pain I’d just leave them in tbf, I wish I could have but they were proper unbearable for me. Or get like plastic/rubber ones maybe which is what I got but never had the chance to put them in instead. Now they’re pretty much fully closed over 😭 still got my belly piercing but that will need to be changed to a longer bar very soon haha

@Sam I'm hoping I might be ok as I've had it pierced a very long time? Who knows though it might close up instantly 🤷

@Dana yes I think changing to a longer plastic bar is a good shout 💕 thankyou ladies! My belly piercing came out years ago and closed up straight away and I was always too scared to get it re pierced😅

I had mine done for 20 years when I got pregnant and took it out.. 🤷‍♀️ x

But I breastfed for almost 2 years and didn't try and put it back in again. My nipples were so sore, especially initially when feeding, that I wouldn't have wanted to do that too! My mum used to joke that it would be like a sprinkler system if I tried to breastfeed lol xx

@Sam looks like I'm going to have to come to terms with the fact it's coming out and staying out then... Haha 😅 omg! To be fair I have been worried it'll leak from all angles! Haha x

It's not something I really recall happening but I took mine out about 2 months into the pregnancy.. you might get lucky and it not close up.. or you could get it re done when you're done breastfeeding.. for me, now I'm older, I couldn't go through that pain again 😂 x

@Sam yeh I don't think I could go through with the pain again, I had to have my nose re pierced before and almost passed out 😅 x

It definitely gets more painful with time I'm sure! And scar tissue.. I don't think I could have anything pierced now, although I do want my lip done on the side again 🤪 x

@Sam no that's what I'm worried about... Scar tissue 🫣 although I'm sure it can't be as painful as giving birth 😅 you might feel like you can get anything pierced once you've had the baby haha x

I've already had one baby and still don't think I could stomach it 😂 xx
