Water

Hey guys! I’ve heard it’s okay to give my 3 month old a little cool boiled water in this heat. Is this the case and has anyone done it?

Thank you!

No. They can't tolerate plain water just yet. It could really hurt them. I'd just offer baby smaller amounts of brestmilk/formula during the day like maybe an extra 2 oz here or there

ahh okay thank you. The NHS website says small amounts of cool boiled water is fine for formula fed babies under 6 months but I wanted to see other opinions 🥰

if you think they are dehydrated (sunken soft spot) then yes you can offer up to 1oz in a day, as per nhs guidelines.

We gave cooled boiled water to our daughter when the heat wave hit and she was under 6 months. We literally gave her tiny amounts at a time. Can't remember how much exactly as she's 3 now so it was a while ago. We followed the NHS guidelines

yes if they are formula feed you can give small amounts of cooled boiled water, whereas if you breast feed you don’t need to as you milk naturally because more watery in hot weather x

Only if they are formula fed and you think they’re dehydrated

Yes it’s absolutely fine x

I prefer to just offer cooler milk/formula, the heat likely will drop their appetite a little too so this way they are still getting the calories and nutrition instead of empty fluid in their tummy

No they’re organs can’t handle water till 6months a baby given water before then could potentially fall some of their organs and even at 6m they can only have 1-2 oz (recommended) You’re doing a great job mama!!

Yes I agree with Hannah it is fine in super small quantities my other comment I said it is dangerous but I didn’t know if you meant smaller amounts or larger ❤️
