Hey so I honestly donât even know where to start with this. I had my baby last December and the full time I was pregnant I was given sly digs and treated terribly because I was pregnant before her. We werenât trying and neither were they. I was told in the January that Iâd find it âextremely difficultâ to fall pregnant so when I did of course I was absolutely over the moon!. AnywaysâŠmy baby shower I wasnât allowed a say in any of it and she,my MIL and mum planned it. Never even involved my sisters as she said she wanted it to be a surprise for everyone blah blah. So sheâs pregnant due November and sheâs now made a baby shower event asking everyone to plan it for her and sent links to everything she wants. Now Iâm still on maternity payâŠI cannot afford the extravagant things she has planned!. The games and stuff I have mentioned and my input have been ignored but thereâs so much hype around when other people say stuff. We were also suppose to be going on holiday with my partner and his mum but sheâs said the only date she can do is the Saturday we are away so now we canât go đ. How do I even go about speaking to her or is it even worth it?. Everyoneâs constantly tip toeing around her and she made my MIL buy them fitted wardrobes at almost ÂŁ1800 just because she took us to Chester zoo!đ urgh im just feeling so deflated and because Iâm the âstrong oneâ nobody takes my feelings and thinks I can handle it and because she spits the dummy out everyone bows down. Any help would be appreciated!đ„čđ

Go on holiday!!! Baby showers are not a priority⊠dont let this awful spoilt woman make you feel this way - get that holiday booked, say your sorry but the holiday was already planned x
my MIL was coming with us and she would need to be there for the baby shower. She was also going to chip in for it due to her spending so much on them so far! đ©đ© thereâs no way we could go away on holiday without her help and SIL knows that đđ©xx

Definitely go on holiday! Would she cancel hers for you? X

Sorry but if I had a holiday booked, then that's that. Not cancelling a pre-booked thing to go play 'guess the size of the bump' đ tell her to f-off
itâs not been booked officially đ thatâs why itâs so annoying because we can âgo another timeâ but my MIL is away the week after we go away to a wedding and then itâs venturing way too close to babyâs arrival and then Iâm back at work and donât have the AL đ©đ. Just so frustrating!!

She sounds petty and jealous and wants to be centre of attention! Do what makes you and your direct family happy x

Sorry youâre going through this! Unfortunately I have been through similar experiences with a narcissistic SIL. Not exactly the same, but she also caused a lot of issues between me and hubby with my MIL. And she always got her way đif not she would kick off and be so nasty and blow up. Everyone in the family would say âthatâs just how she isâ but I canât accept that. Thatâs so not okay!
I donât have any advice on your current situation. BUT for the sake of you and your little one I would try to distance yourself as much as possible. Take a step back. If respect is not reciprocated then she doesnât deserve yours.
Do whatâs best for you and your little family and put your needs first. Things are much better since doing this as I am in control of whether she gets to me. Have also found if I donât rise to her she doesnât bother. By the sounds of it she knows exactly what sheâs doing and has your MIL wrapped around her little fingerđ oh and btw congrats on your little one! đ„°

I have a SIL just like this. Her family says the same exact thing about her! âThatâs just how she isâ L O L. She picked a fight with me ONE WEEK postpartum about how rude I am to repost a meme about how it feels seeing other people hold my baby. Like what?!
She took that opportunity to tell me how sheâs always hated me and how awful I am and blah blah.
Obviously, she is not welcome in our life or our babyâs life. We protect our peace above pleasing anyone.
I agree, though, she should distance herself from SIL and try to not be involved in this shower.
