Omeprazole - better then worse?

My little girl has severe silent reflux, we were finally prescribed omeprazole and started it 2 and a half weeks ago. Initially we had the dispersible tablets (5mg) for 13 days and then moved to the liquid (800mcg/kg) 4 days ago. We saw a very immediate positive reduction in symptoms with the tablets but after about 4/5 days things got drastically worse, we put it down to really struggling to give the medication and thinking she was having about half the dose she should. With the liquid we again saw an immediate reduction in symptoms but are now experiencing probably our worst 24 hours to date. Has anyone else had this? We’ve got a call with the GP on Tuesday to review. I’m hoping we just need to increase the dose 🤞🏼 but unsure if it could be something else.

Yes definitely more sick than when he first started having it and he wasn’t even sick before (he also has silent reflux) . We had a nightmare getting it in him to begin with because he absolutely can’t stand it.
We started giving it to him like a dream feed and using the dummy to make sure he is swallowing it (so squirting it, using dummy etc etc…) otherwise we literally can’t do it! Sometimes he takes it from the bottle like he would his milk but other times he refuses even when he’s asleep! Xx

did it get better? She’s been a little bit sick which is very unusual for her but it’s the amount of acid she’s bringing up constantly and just screaming in pain 😔 she’s exhausted herself now and has fallen asleep but she’s been refusing to feed since 4pm x

yes but I’m going to be honest it took a while for it to have any kind of affect they same a minimum of two weeks but it definitely took longer than that for my little boy!
Bless her it’s really horrible to see. We use gaviscon along with omeprazole however it has made him constipated at times so then we’ve had give lactose on occasions! Xx

we were put in on gaviscon prior to the omeprazole but found it just made her really constipated and we weren’t actually sure what it helped with as she was never sick. Do you find it helps with his pain at all or stops the acid alone coming up without sick? X

It’s tricky when they get constipated with it because they get fussy around feeds when they’re constipated as well! But with the lactulose he was able to go and then we could see it was clearly helping him.
There are times he’s abit sicky but I think that’s a combination of things like just normal spit up and maybe not keeping him up right for long enough but as I said sick has never been the problem.
I believe it stops so much acid coming up which then makes him more comfortable there are still times I can smell that yoghurt /vinegary smell on his breathe though but I think we have had probably 1-3 issues since , maybe not even that many!
Sometimes he’s fussy at feeds but I know for fact it’s not the reflux it’s just age and wanting to be in different positions xx

Mine was better after day two and then got worse on day 7. I spoke to health visitor and GP, they re weighed her and because her weight was going up we had to increase the dose. I now weigh her ever week and adjust accordingly if I think it's starting to wear off
