21 months need help

So we keep our son's cars in a SkyFlakes box. He was playing with his cars in his bed. I have to get up really early tomorrow so I went to say goodnight and he hits me in the head with the skyflakes bin.
I took his cars away, now he's in total meltdown. He's crying to my husband for his cars.

Things like this have been happening often. I'll come home and hug my husband and our son will hit me until I let go of my husband. He will bite me, hit me, twist my ears.
Usually I just put him down and walk away if I'm holding him. Hold his hands and say "hitting/biting is not nice, it hurts", ignore him, remove myself.

It's been getting worse over the last month or two. I don't know how to stop it.

All you can do is what you're already doing. It's a phase he will eventually outgrow. I know it's frustrating, but it's exactly what you would want another kid to say and do in response. You wouldn't want the situation to escalate!

This is such a hard phase. 🥺 It takes either a lot of reinforcement or a little taste of their own medicine. Gotta take your pick.

I will gently, but uncomfortably pinch his cheeks together (the area where the jaw connects) when he bites. He doesn't like it. I hold the length it takes to say that "it hurts and I don't like it", then let go.

I don't do it often, just when he bites hard enough to bruise. I dont like doing it though

it's just me, he doesn't do it to my husband or my parents

All behaviour is communication.

You're responding great, but you need to solve the cause, not treat the symptoms. Usually this indicates he doesn't feel as loved by you because for kids, time=love.

Do you get 1 on 1 time with him every day? Where you play with him and he has your full focused attention?

Avatar

I try, he just pushes me away. The only thing he let's me do is tickle him.

Feeling a little better after yesterday. We had a carnival at my work and my son wanted to go on the pony ride. He pulled me away from the craft table to help him on the ride.

That's great! Some days are easier than others, so enjoy and remember to appreciate that those days will always come around 😊❤️

If you google "parental preference" you will find loads of articles about this, as well as tips. It's really common.
