Did she see it in person ? Could be a belly button hernia- I’d leave the health visitor and just make a doctor appointment on Monday if you can.

It looks like it could be a hernia? I would call the GP and ask for their advice x

Umbilical hernia. A part of the intestine squeezes through a weakening of the abdominal muscles 🥴 My son was also born with one. I also had one as a baby. Most resolve on their own before age 3. The ones that don’t, require a minimally invasive surgery to correct. But they cause no harm unless they become incarcerated but that’s rare. Show your GP for confirmation but they won’t do anything about it.

Nothing will be done surgically until after 2 years of age. Unless there it gets twisted. I had one and it corrected on its own, most do. My son has one and it got bigger before it got smaller. He’s 5 months old now and it’s almost closed

Looks like hernia I had quite a large one as a baby and mine eventually corrected itself , yet again every baby is different , can always get a second opinion xxx

Thank you everyone! It’s been worrying me as the health visitor in person said it will go down, but that doesnt seem the case. hopefully will start going down soon x

My daughter has this she’s 2 now! Drs said she had a wee umbilical hernia but they usually resolve but she also has an outie - not sure if this is because of the hernia? But either way there’s never been a single bit of concern from HV etc. As shes gotten bigger it hasn’t grown but she’s not grown into her outie yet so it still sticks out like this xx

It’ll shrink, but might take a few years for that to happen. As long as it’s not causing pain or problems, it’s best to let it shrink on its own

It's an umbilical hernia, my eldest son has one that got bigger at the age of 3 months it became stuck and wouldn't go down on its own, he was in pain and screaming I went to my hospital and we was sent to a hospital in London, where I was told if they couldn't reduce it he would need emergency surgery they gave him some morphine and managed to push it back in. We stayed under their care for 2 years with routine appointments to check it progress and thankfully around 6 months ago discharged as its shrunk and the hole has closed! I don't want to cause you worry I just wanted to let you know what to watch out for and when to seek medical advice. Xx
