Please help ... formula suggestions

Have you tried pace feeding the bottles? A bottle that size should be taking 15-20 mins to feed your baby. If you’re letting them drink it down fast without pacing it slow they can develop a lot of gas and stomach pain which the baby can confuse as hunger and start showing hunger cues again. I would start there because there’s no way 5oz of formula isn’t filling a baby that age, and you’re going to accidentally overfeed if you continue

Hi, we're pace feeding and have been since week 1. It does take him around 20mins to drink the bottle but he does drain them. The HV has watched and assured we're not overfeeding as he's not throwing up and is rooting for it. He's just a large baby on every centile because both my husband and I are tall and he's already 60cm. Thank you for your opinion but I was looking for suggestions on formula change as we've already ruled out everything else with the doctor and HV. If a baby is screaming for it you have to feed on demand.

If a baby is screaming it doesn’t always mean they are hungry and size has nothing to do with feeding amount, but okay good luck mama

Every health professional we've spoken to has said feeding amount goes off of size of course it does as he needs more. Every baby is different. Also, no screaming alone isn't but when he's rooting, suckling, fists clenched, tongue out and showing all hunger cues he clearly is ...

Maybe try aptimal hungry baby milk that might help. My daughter was on sma but it was to rich for her she’s now on aptimal she’s not the same as your boy but I know they do a hungrier baby formula. My eldest was on 9oz bottle by time he was 3 months every 3/4 hours and I weaned him at 3.5 months adding breakfast advised by by my doctor because he was always so hungry. He’s now a thriving happy healthy and healthy weight 12 year old.

@Sophie Fab thank you, I'll have a look at that. That's good to know maybe a larger bottle would make his stretches longer because sometimes he'll take 5oz and then an hr later want maybe another oz or two. He's a little chunk bless him but the docs are happy with him. Good to know they advised the weaning so early on.

My midwife with my son always said if he’s drowning a full bottle then up the oz my boy was a chubby little baby but once he was on the move he soon dropped it. Also like you my boy was tall for a baby and is tall now. The only time I’d be worried is if he’s throwing the milk up which he isn’t so deffo give it a go offer a bit more milk. Also with weaning I wouldn’t do it unless they advise you to. I wouldn’t have with my son but 12 years ago there weren’t bigger bottles. You can now get bottles that go up to 11oz xx

Then give him more ounces of formula. Like I said though baby having a tummy ache which is common with formula and not pace feeding can show exactly the same as hunger cues. But I would just feed more formula then

yes it is which is why Iv said to the poster only do it if your advised to. I would never had done it if the doctor hadn’t told me to, it was also only plain baby rice mixed with his milk was around 4-6 baby spoon fulls and he didn’t have any other food introduced untill he was 5.5 months
