Drying up breast milk

Has anyone been through this and have any advice/tips on the best way to do it to avoid mastitis or blocked ducts?

I’ve been exclusively pumping for my second baby and I’ve just reached the end of my tether with it. My nipples are cut to pieces and I’m finding it so hard to fit into our routine now. We have quite a big freezer stash and baby is happy to take formula so I’m not worried about not pumping anymore.

I breast fed my eldest but my milk dried up when I got pregnant with my second so I’ve never been through the process of drying it up myself.

Thank you!

I exclusively pumped for my 2nd baby and gave up too. I think getting Mastitis and blocked ducts is inevitable? My midwife, GP and HV all have the same advice which was to not touch them and wear a good sturdy and supportive bra, whilst also wearing breast pads as the boobs will leak from being so full! I found putting those Lanisol Cool Packs on my boobs overnight eased the pain…just keep hydrated and take paracetamol and ibuprofen. Worked for me, I will say that I did have red boobs and strange markings that worried me but once my milk dried up they disappeared, GP said that was normal too so I didn’t worry too much! x

wow thank you, that’s so helpful. Did you just go cold turkey one day? Or were you gradually decreasing pumps before you stopped fully? I’m still pumping three or four times a day currently

Reduce a pumping session every 3-4 days until your down to one session then gradually reduce the time on that one. If you go cold turkey you will get blocked ducts and it’ll be so painful
