Anxiety and guilt about post birth (I’m 26 weeks)

I’m nervous to even post this but I’m really getting ridiculously anxious about after I’ve given birth… I already know I’m going to want so much time with my little girl to bond with her and figure it all out and I’m already getting protective and upset about people wanting to cuddle her and be with her… my parents in law are lovely but they’re already asking when they can have her overnight and I feel like they’ll just want to hold her and take her off me and it’s literally making me so stressed and upset… The worst part is I’m already feeling anxious about my husband trying to settle her or having her and me not feeling bonded to her anymore and I know that’s such an awful thing to even think about but I feel so protective of her already and not ready to be separated from her 🙈
Am I a terrible person or have I gone mental? 🙈😭 if you did feel like this was the reality actually ok or how did you handle it? Please no judgement 😢

Honestly I was the same. My friend was a few weeks behind me and she had the same with her in laws asking about taking her for the night and it gave her such bad anxiety! Eventually she just ended up saying something along the lines of ‘well I don’t think I’ll let her have a sleepover too early’ in the end they grasped that they wouldn’t be having baby for sleepovers. I had a family member offer to look after my baby (now 5 months) and I simply just said I don’t think I’m ready for that yet.
What I will say is definitely let people help when baby is here because sleep deprivation is real and people just want to help however I didn’t have the best first week of my sons life so I didn’t want anyone around us at all, I pushed back on visitors.

You’re not a terrible person nor have you gone mental your motherly instincts are already kicking in and you want to protect your baby and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Xxx

You are not a terrible person. You are a mom and all these feelings are valid. Before I gave birth I spoke to my partner about all the things that would make me nervous. Thankfully he was understanding and helped reinforce my boundaries with his family and I dealt with mine. I had a long list of things I didn’t want happening and discussing them made me less anxious. Do what your gut is telling you and know that it’s okay to change your mind and ask for help later. You got this!❤️

Thanks so much lovelies I actually was having that much of a meltdown I ended up having to explain to my husband as he was so worried of how upset I got 😭 luckily he was really sweet and understanding and said he’d be my advocate and make sure no one stepped over the boundaries and that I felt comfortable
He also suggested maybe just go and speak to someone so that I can get things off my chest etc xx
Really strange isn’t it how your mindset totally changes and I’ve already gone into full mumma bear protection mode
Really nice to know I’m not a total maniac! Thanks so much xx

full mummy mode doesn’t stop there either 😂 it’s natural to feel like this and when baby is here you’ll be the same . You’re already an amazing mummy!
Lovely your husband is supportive of you. I actually saw a therapist during my pregnancy too it’s nice for someone outside of your circle to listen and vent! Xx

It's normal. We're hard wired to be extremely protective of our babies and being PP makes it worse. Don't push yourself too much. Start by having your husband help, and only let others hold her when you feel ready. As for overnights, don't feel pressured by that either. My sons 4 and has never slept at his grandparents house yet.

I think it’s normal, but the way you are feeling may change after baby is here and you are sleep deprived and need a break! I needed way more help than I thought I would. Just be firm and clear with what you want and make sure your husband is on the same page!
