Aptamil Pepti 1 Advice?

Looking to swap my LO over to formula (she’s breastfed) the doctor has given us Aptamil Pepti 1 and advised we start transitioning by adding one scoop into my milk in a bottle and gradually increasing.

The only problem is the Aptamil tastes revolting! Is this normal???? Even more so, when I mix it with my breastmilk it tastes like sick 🤮 how is my baby gonna enjoy this milk???

Yes, the taste is normal. Aptamil Pepti is actually the 'nicest' tasting and smelling hypoallergenic formula of them all unfortunately. However, if baby was reacting through breast milk already, then she really should be prescribed an amino-acid formula. Aptamil Pepti is an extensively hydrolysed formula, meaning that it does still contain some milk proteins just heavily broken down. It's also on the same level as breast milk (if mum is still having dairy) in terms of the amount of milk protein in it. So if baby reacted through breast milk, then they're likely to react to the Pepti as well

luckily I can still eat things with milk in it, such as chocolate but if i was to have a glass of milk she would react horribly. Do you think she will be ok on this milk? I did mention this to the doctor but she was very dismissive.

oh I’ve never heard of that, good idea. How is your son now? Did Pepti work for him?🙏

In that case she might be alright with Pepti then. Fingers crossed! Improvement is usually seen within a few days to a few weeks, though it can take 4-6 weeks for the non-hydrolysed milk proteins to fully leave their system. If she does improve and then later gets worse again, it could be a build-up reaction to the hydrolysed proteins. At that point you can always switch to amino-acid formula still
