Baby girl weights at 12 weeks

Hi there! I want to get some advice from breastfeeding/expressed breast milk mama!

My little one is 12 weeks yesterday and I went to the clinic to weight her and she is 10lb13 (4.98kg).

According to the growth chart, she is just above 9th percentile. All of her previous weights from birth were around 25th percentile. Which got me thinking am I not eating the right food for her to gain weight or am I not feeding her enough to gain weight?

She currently mainly a combination of breastfed and expressed breast milk with the occasional formula feed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would speak to your HV/local breastfeeding clinic/ GP if your baby is loosing weight, it could be she isn’t getting enough from poor latching/tongue tie etc.

I don’t think it’s what you are eating per say - during an NHS antenatal class we were told that there is very little difference between a breastfeeding woman who is starving (eg living in a war zone) vs not starving (except in extreme cases of malnutrition).

My baby was loosing weight after birth above what was expected and at one point was on the 25th percentile. I was told feed a minimum of every 3hrs, including at night (she was feed on demand but essentially not to leave more than 3hrs between feeds). Also to burp & offer both breasts each session. The 3h timer would re-start after each feed.

She did jump to the 50th percentile but if she hadn’t stuck to her initial curve/ went down further, the HV said we have needed to explore combi-feeding with regular formula or to transition her to formula.

When we weighted her at the clinic the HV at the clinic weren’t concern she is loosing weight based on the projected growth chart.
Thanks for this , I will wait for the next month and see how she is doing!
Currently am feeding on demand during night time and doing the 3 hrs feeds during day time.
