Back to work
I'm due back at work in October I've been off since January on adoption leave. I've been to see my manager today and won't be able to work set days as I was hoping to. I work long days and it means not seeing my son for a full day. I'm worried about how he's going to cope with not seeing me.
I was annoyed with my manager cause she hasn't got my return to work date sorted when she knows when I'm due back.
Also it has hit me today that I've got to go back soon.

Have you put inba flexible working reqiest? Did they give you valid reasons as to why you can't work set days? You need to think how you will arrange childcare for you son around this. You've got this x
My job was not willing to bend at all with the hours or shifts I worked so whilst I was on maternity I found a new job (who waited for my mat leave to end and for me to work my notice) and withing 7 months of working at my new job I have had a promotion.
I still work full time but I finish at 4pm every day (my old job was only willing to let me work permanent lates and finish at 7pm everyday) so not getting to see my son before he went to bed as they still wanted me to work long days too
Thank you, I might consider looking for a new job in the future. But I don't want the hassle at the moment whilst having to go back to work. It's going to be hard to leave him apart from the odd day I've been with him 24/7 since January
I haven't but don't think they will be much point. It's hard cause my husband and I both work in care. Cause of the shift pattern I won't be able to work set days. If two other people I worked with had children I could have asked but it's not possible.
mine aren't if we had night staff I might have been able to finish a bit earlier but can't. I work ten days a month so it kind of helps
@Sarah it's really hard trying to work around shifts etc. I got a job at Boots in the call centre so they where able to put set shift pattern in for me. I didn't want to work I a call centre but it worked for our children care needs (even if I did have to work every other weekend) I then managed to secure a promotion within 7 months and now work mon-fri 7.30-4
So I still get to see my boy in the evening. And the childminders has him 3 days a week and my dad has him the other 2.
Sometimes you need to do what's best for you and yours. So when your ready I'd look for another job. You don't owe them anything xxx
