Not sure if it’s too soon but he constantly wants to handle forks and spoons (drops food). Shall i let him be messy and learn that way? Also any advice on what type of cutlery to give him?

I always offer a spoon when having dinner . depending what it is, my daughter will sometimes use her hands and sometimes the spoon or both( picks food up with a spoon then hand then back to spoon. I give the plastic"baby" spoons and forks
Most of the time, My daughter wont take food from a spoon if we're holding it but as soon as i let her hold it she starts eating fine by herself. Little miss independent. I let her be messy and use her hands too, its good for them to learn x

I have little rubber and plastic type spoons for my lo. I've always let her have one at food time for her to try herself. She sometimes uses the spoon, and other times, her hand. Most of the time, she won't let me feed her.
She does make a huge mess, but I always put a long sleeve baby bib on her, to try not to stain her clothes. Doesn't always work, but deffinetly a lot less with it x

Mine has mastered forks/spoons now, but was quite messy to start with. It’s the only way they learn, if they are interested I would go for it. Mine use metal cutlery like we use, just smaller versions

Same as Freya. I just use smaller version of our cutlery and she now feeds herself with actually little mess if she wants to and doesn't start playing around. But I gave her cutlery from about 9m and it took a good 4m of practice

Metal cutlery has worked best for mine. Just use smaller versions of that we had in a cutlery set. Think they are dessert forks that he really likes best. Loves getting the fork and trying to poke it into the food. Do have to assist him
