Sitting up
Baby is 4 months today and will sit up on me and sits between my legs supported but I just wondered at what age do babies start sitting up on their own? Is there anything I should be doing to encourage this or is it still too early?

It’s usually around 6 months, and you don’t really need to do anything in particular at this stage 😊 it just takes time for their bodies to develop into being ready

They usually sit up unaided around 6 months but they might do it earlier or later. Best thing to do is tummy time so they can strengthen all their muscles. Also they shouldn’t be put in the sitting position but they should achieve it by themselves (usually from 4 legs position).

They all do things at different times. Sometimes even over night they just start doing things. My daughter started sitting on her own at 4 months. She loved tummy time though it’s all she wanted so I feel like that’s why she sat earlier. She started rolling on her own at 2 months.
Something 6, sometimes 7/8 motnhs they expect them to be sitting at 9 months though xx
Tummy time really is the best thing. Holding them upright in your arms also helps trunk control if they enjoy it. You can give them a bit of practice in the sitting position when they are able to do it without slouching. If they slouch forward or sideways, they're not ready.
