On my last legs

I’m honestly loosing the will to live now with hardly any sleep behind me. Last night got way too much for me and I broke down after trying to hold it together for so long. I just don’t know what to do anymore regarding my sons sleep. Nearly 8 months now and he wakes up in the night crying. Wakes up an hour probably after I put him down at night. So many people are telling me different things and I’m so conflicted. Me and my partner fall out over it and I feel like a bad mum not getting him ‘sleep trained’ earlier. Honestly this word is doing my head in atm. How are you suppose to sleep train a screaming baby with an overstimulated mother?!!!! I want him to sleep independently and sometimes his does but he’s much calmer when he’s on me or in my bed. Maybe making a rod for my own back but I get sleep? I really don’t know what to do anymore and I feel like ringing the health visitor today to get some help and advice because I’m knackered and emotional. I’m really not enjoying being a mother atm and I don’t want it to be that way 😩

I think when baby is only 7-8 months old maybe try letting him sleep with you for a few days so you can get the well needed rest you need to function. Babies will sleep in time and some babies never sleep through until they’re basically in school so try not to worry about that too much yet just focus on trying to get him to sleep through a few sleep cycles at a time so you can have a few hours of sleep together.

A suggestion maybe if baby is hungry try giving him a little snack before bed if you’re weaning? He be a bit hungry and just need that extra bit to keep him full in the night.

Just know you’re doing a great job and things will get easier for you when everything clicks for baby!🩷x

thank you, I really appreciate this post. I just put so much pressure on myself with everyone tells me they should be doing by this age and it’s so overwhelming. He usually has his dinner a couple hours before he goes down for bed and has a bottle for bedtime. Does that sound about right?

People will tell you so many things so I just ignore everyone now unless it’s actually going do be helpful😂

My little one has her dinner at about 7pm then a bottle and bed and 9pm so I’d say what you’re doing is probably about the same. I know some babies get hungrier than others so I thought maybe food might give you some extra hours☺️x

You’re doing great! Totally normal for them to sleep much better next to you! Can you try camping out in his room for a bit? Either a floor bed or a bed next to his cot? Maybe have a look at his nap schedule and wake windows too to make sure he’s not under/over tired :) x

that’s a good idea! We’re moving house soon so he will have to sleep with me whilst Reno is going on so he may sleep better. Nap wise he only has 1 nap a day which is usallu 1.5-2 hours

How long does it take him to fall asleep on a night? X

he normally sleeps on his bottle towards the end of it so doesn’t send himself to sleep really

That’s ok! Feeding to sleep is fine! If he’s falling asleep fairly fast though it could be that he’s overtired which could explain the false start :) x

1. You’re not a bad mum.
2. There’s no instructions as babies are all different.
3. Co sleep is better than no sleep.
If you’re dead set on independent sleep have you tried putting the radio on in babies room? It worked for mine. Also, I got sent this lullaby on YouTube that’s at a certain frequency or whatever the word is. That sends babies, children and even adults (including myself hehe!) to sleep.
If the link doesn’t work please send me a message and I’ll try that way instead.
I know it’s easier said than done but don’t beat yourself up too much. You’re doing a great job. It’s hard to believe when you’re completely burnt out. But you got this. ❤️

You are so good mum, just do what is best for you and your baby. Trust your instincts, you don't need to follow what everyone says. I went to sleep school when my little one was 5 months and I think there is not age to do it, and it worked in our case, so if you want a try is good. If you don't want to try a sleep school it's fine, you will find your own way, you know your needs and also your baby's. I send you a big hugh, don't think everyone life with baby is perfect, there's always a good days and bad days aswell, so you are doing so well 🤗💕
