Is this normal?
Sorry for the picture but I am at a loss with my little boy. He’s 6 weeks old tomorrow and he for a rash the other day and the doctor said he got an allergy from his baby bath soap as we used the baby Johnson’s one. However my MIL was looking after him last night and said he’s done this poo at 5.15am and that he was proper grunting and crying because it was hurting him and then the poo happened. He’d been struggling with farting and burping since he was born and the doctor told me he had colic. He’d been on infacol since birth then I tried gripe water when he hit a month but he was worse after 3 days so I stopped it and now trying colief in his milk.. but could this be a milk allergy? Does anyone’s babies do poos like this? He doesn’t do them everyday. He will do one poo and then maybe 2 days after he won’t poo.

My 3 week old has this. I took him to GP and she said it could be a number of things:
- milk protein allergy/intolerance
- virus
- constipation: only the watery part gets out
- change in diet
he doesn’t have it like this all the time though 😴 only for my mother in law but I started him on colief yesterday
How often are you feeding him? Make sure he’s hydrated (milk only) and it should pass (since you mention grunting seems like he’s trying). We also used infacol to help get gas up to reduce severe reflux symptoms but was cautious not to dose too much, we only used it for about a month, we found it make poos a lot more explosive and sudden (we normally see her cues for poo and take her EC but the infacol gave us a lot of crazy blowouts). I wonder if it’s the same situation for you?
To rule out cmpa, I’d wait and see if it still continues when you stop the infacol and colief. It took a few days before my little one settled being off the infacol as I was never a fan on relying on it. Not tried colief so can’t comment on that. We’ve used aveeno and Childs farm for soap and that’s been great for us but we only started using it from one month old.
It's hard to remember but most of my newborn babies poo looked similar to this ... Maybe I'm misremembering
