My 5 year old has been potty trained for 3 years, but relapses every year. This year has been the worst and he's still pooping in his pants every so often. I'm falling apart. I have 2 other children I still need to potty train and I don't have the motivation to because my first keeps relapsing 😭

Stay strong momma! Hes he autistic at all? My oldest relapsed a little due to this that’s why I ask( I promise I’m not trying to put anything on you) also. Is he in school yet ? My 4 year old kept doing this.. and then I stopped using pull-ups unless at bed time & told her only big girls can go to school so she had to use the potty and she got better so fast! School also helps her a lot.

Ugh. My 5 yo is also struggling and I'm not sure why. Potty training my 2 yo has been slow. You are in good company!

Same here. He will randomly poop in his pants or pee - though that’s usually because he’s having too much fun playing tablet games and ignores that he has to go. 🫠 it stresses me out that I have a 2 year old I’ll have to potty train sometime too.

Weird question but does he have YouTube or Roblox? My son relapsed really hard with those because he was so entranced by them and didn’t want to get up to go to the bathroom. We went to the doctor they thought maybe he was constipated, but when I took away Roblox and limited YouTube he got completely better and hasn’t had any accidents

My 4 year old is refusing to use the potty and acts deathly afraid of it. She's so capable and used it before she was 2 but has regressed. Not sure if it's her baby brother or grandma visits or just a psychological block. I don't want to hurt her in the long run and force her. I could use the same advice here - just wanted to say I feel ya

I've thought about Autism, but I'm not 100% sure. 🤷🏼♀️

He doesn't have YouTube or roblox. We don't really do electronics 😅

My daughter was pretty much potty trained at 3 too and also had problems with just pooping in her pants every so often and I eventually made her doctor. Let me take her to get an x-ray and she turned out having a backed up bowl I honestly don’t know what I really did. I know I stopped buying regular bread and only got whole wheat and tried to push more water and like fruits and vegetables. We definitely still eat our bad food and go out but I feel like I try when I can to get the healthier options or the more fiber options for her, and I feel like that’s helped a lot, but with fiber you have to make sure they’re hydrated because fiber takes a lot of water and being dehydrated can also cause constipation eventually, though after she like un clogged, essentially she hasn’t had any problems with the bathroom when she gets constipated tho , that’s when the poop starts coming back so maybe it’s that occasional constipation, resulting and accidents the same thing happens with my daughter

@Lily my daughter for sure gets mesmerized by YouTube or whatever little show she watches. I've been thinking it's "fear of missing out"

I personally have an autistic daughter who is going to be five in October. I did have difficulty with potty training her and her ability to learn things quickly is extremely hard. I found that encouraging her constantly with “being a big girl” talk
Helped her a little bit more. I also would mention to her that if she wants to be like a superhero, she has to go poo poo in the toilet. She took very well to that and has been good about it ever since. I even have laminated signs in the bathroom to encourage her to do the proper protocol. sticker charts, candy rewards, or extra minutes of playtime before bed also encouraged her to use the restroom instead of going in her pants

She didn’t start officially pooping in the toilet until she turned 4 last October

This sounds familiar. Our 5yrs had a regression as well...basically we needed more fiber. Those ouchy poos cause fear & holding in and lots of tears. We got flavorless fiber powder & mix it with foods, sauces, smoothies, yogurts & morning milk etc. Fiber gummies as well as a probiotic gummy...a stool for feet to rest on while waiting on poo to descend...oh & a cookie for a prize...this is what pulled us out of regression.

Did he’s telling you why he’s doing that ?

Is he in school? And does it happen when school starts? It could be the change in environment.

Oh & 100% applejuice!

Not sure if anyone mentioned bribery above, but …. Bribery.

he usually says he gets distracted, but he also told me tonight he didn't want to go on the toilet 😬

no, we homeschool. But my husband is in the army, and his sister has been in and out of the hospital a lot, so those could also be factors.

@Brittany my 5 year old also regressed last year and it's a lot but maybe you could try putting a timer every 15 mins to remind him to go potty. At their age they do get distracted very easily with either playing with siblings or TV/tablets.
