Waking up hysterical?

I have 5 month old twins and my son has recently started waking up randomly crying hysterically. At first I thought it was his sister knocking him with her fist as they do co-sleep but tonight it happened as I was laying in the bed nursing her. He even got really tense and stopped breathing for a few seconds then let out a massive cry. I picked him up and rocked him for a good few minutes before he calmed down. I don’t know if he is having nightmares as we do allow tv time but it’s bluey or Mickey Mouse clubhouse. Honestly I’m just so broken hearted from the experience and I know it’ll get easier because it just is part of motherhood but I’d still like to know I’m not the only one experiencing this. 🥺😔💔

it could be gas pains, especially if he’s tensing up, or growing pains.

My daughter recently has been waking up so distraught unless she is in the bed with me, I have just been letting her sleep with me because she refuses the crib lately 😭

It could be nightmares! My son started doing this recently too and when I pick him up it seems like he’s still sleeping. Idk what babies have nightmares about tho. The only time he’s ever been scared is when I sneezed. Like, is that what they have nightmares about? 😂

Update: it was gas 😔

@McKenna did you figure out it was consistently gas? Mine is doing this too a couple hours after bedtime, has been hysterical twice in a row when offering to feed after she wakes up crying

Yes! It’s consistent around their nighttime feeds right before bed! I’ve had to watch my habits with them and I started really making sure gas moves before laying them down by doing the bicycles or rocking
