Our 2.5 year old chokes on water pretty much daily, sometimes he coughs alot, sometimes only a little bit his but eyes water when it happens.
The health visitor never seems concerned when its been mentioned.
Last week he coughed and threw up, we didn't see whether that was after a drink but it was out of nowhere, he was playing and suddenly he started coughing loads, then carried on as if nothing happened.
Tonight he was eating mashed potato, started to cough alot and threw up again. Again, just out of nowhere, enjoying his food, it happened and then he wanted to carry on eating, we cleaned him up and gave him back his dinner and he ate the lot. IDK if we should have let him carry on eating but my partner was certain it was a choke so didn't want to deny him of food.
I know there's a possibility it could be a bug, at least one of these occasions, but would he be able to just carry on eating or playing after?
If not a bug then my concern is why is he choking on water all the time, and why suddenly has he began to throw up?
Any ideas what might be going on?

Eh he might be eating too much and too fast. Maybe give him less food at times so he can’t stuff his face. Maybe get a cup that he can’t chug and he gets less at a time. My son gags and throws up if I try to give him medicine or if he cries way to hard so we have to just think extra hard how we handle things

@Gabrielle he's always ate well and never used to throw up. It could be a bug but it's happened twice in just over a week so I really don't know.
And I'm thinking if it is a bug, surely he shouldn't be choking and struggling as much to be sick. Either way I think there's something not right.
With his water, he does drink from a sippy cup, I don't think it has a fast flow. I've been scared to try him with a normal cup too often because I worry he will choke even more 😔

@Laura we think he had that, floppy vocal chords is it?
He had some breathing issues as a baby but there was never answers as to why and one day it just stopped happening x

It sounds like a tongue tie, my son does this and has a slight tongue tie, try doing tongue exercises, can they stick their tongue out and move it side to side or lift it up? If they can do all - no tie, if only some, slight tongue tie and if none significant tongue tie. My HV was concerned when I mentioned this to her and referred him to speech and language immediately where he was then put under eating and drinking, definitely pester your HV lovely! X
