Toddler has started saying there’s monsters in his room at night 🙈

He was sleeping so well and then all of sudden he started saying he was scared of the red light coming from his camera in his room (he has had it since he was a baby) then he started getting up in the night and saying he could see monsters. I’ve tried to explain monsters aren’t real and that there’s nothing in his room but he is still waking up scared. Anyone have any advice? Also is this happening to anyone else? Could it just be a phase?

How about you ask him what the monsters look like? Maybe find out more about the monsters.

My cousin would say there were people in his room and when my aunt asked him to describe them and he described his dead great grandparents!

Kids pick up on weird stuff and while I’ve not had this sort of thing (yet), we’ve had some odd experiences with my son so have a few things you could try. You can message me if you want to chat about weird and wonderful

My daughter has a thing about bugs, she really doesn't like them. She's had a couple of nightmares about them, and she woke up asking me to put them in the bin. We then spoke about there not being any bugs in her bed or the bedroom, and they were all outside. She has been ok for a few weeks now x

My son went through exactly the same thing. It started happening after I read a book to him called I'm Not Scared, which was about not being scared of monsters, ironically. So I just put it down to that. My husband & I had to go into his room at night & blow the monsters away with him. He also decided he didn't like the camera on his cot, so i had to turn it away from him. It lasted a few weeks, I would say.

Also something similar - my boy started to say that there is a monster there and was pointing to the camera which had red lights. Turning the camera around didn't help, so we've just removed it and decided that we don't need it anymore. No mention of the monsters since then.

My boy also hates his baby monitor and needs them to be unplugged/taken down sometimes in the middle of the night 🙁

Mine has just started not letting me leave when she goes to sleep and says she's scared, I've asked her what she's scared of and she's pointed at her camera monitor, it has a green light on it so going to cover the light and see how she goes
