Weight gain

How much weight are your breastfed babies gaining and how quickly? I do baby led feeding and have started feeding a 3.5oz bottle of expressed milk once a night (for my partner to feed). We have weighed my daughter this evening and she is 10.1lbs at 11 weeks. At 8 weeks she weighed 9.6lbs. When she was born she was 38 + 5 weeks and weighed 6.1lbs. She has frequent wet and dirty nappies, sleeps well but on her growth chart has dropped down a centile.

I weigh my baby weekly ( I know you are not supposed to) but I’m breastfeeding and I don’t know I’ll always think is not enough. My baby she’s gaining good, but when I drop a fed a night she stop gains as she should so I give her an extra fed during the day and like that she seems fine. Now we find our feed routine and she is gaining 200gr a week a feed her 8 times a day, one bottle of express milk before bed 3.5 oz and one in the morning 4 oz the rest of the day she will get the breast

How much does she weigh if you don’t mind me asking?

@Carmen hiya hope you don't mind me asking but do you notice baby lasting longer after a bottle before needing another feed? I'm considering giving more bottles to help space feeds out (and help with weight gain as baby has dropped a few percentiles)

My daughter is exactly the same she is 11 weeks and weighs 10.1lb she was 6.5lb when she was born and has been putting on weight well as I breastfeed and she has a bottle of formula on a night 3 or 4 nights a week if she isn't settling. The doctor advised me that the percentile charts are based off bottle fed babies so if it seems like she is under she probably isn't as it tells me the ideal weight at 11 weeks is 11lb I am not worried so you are OK. As long as your LO is healthy. You're doing a great job.

@Georgia she is 5.750 kg 12 weeks

@Hafiza I give her only two bottles one before bed and she will sleep through the night then another bottle when she wakes up and then she will go back to sleep for another 4 hours, yes I do notice she is sleeping more. When she is at the breast she’s having two long fed and the rest are just snacking. In total she is getting 4 full fed and 4 “snacks “ total of 8 at day

My baby was 10lb when she was born 24/07, at our 6 week HV check she was 12lb 7oz. She's been putting on around 300g every 2 weeks x

Mine was born at 8lb 13 and is currently about 9 weeks and 13lb 10. Ebf, no pumping. He still wakes 2 to 3 times a night for feeds. My first was born at 7lb 13 and at 9 weeks was 9lb 9. Also ebf, but with pumped bottles.

@Rebecca Not to nitpick, but there is no "ideal weight" for babies. 50th centile is just the average and, like you say, it's for bottle-fed babies. So long as the weight isn't doing anything properly janky, like actually going down or suddenly shooting up, it's probably fine.
