My lo is 5 weeks. I am mixed feeding with mostly breastfeeding, some formula and some bottles of pumped breast milk. When my lo is at the breast after about 10 min per side he starts to get frustrated - tugging at the breast and wiggling around. He is also falling asleep at the breast easily. I’ve been undressing him to keep him awake but I think I need to get my supply up to keep him full longer. I want to cut out the formula. It’s hard for me to pump during the day because he likes to contact sleep. At night I pump anywhere between 2 ounces per breast or sometimes 1 ounce per breast. I pump for about 15 min. What do other people pump at 5 weeks? How else can I increase my supply?

I mostly breastfeed and then pump once at night (about 4oz) to cover one bottle her dad gives at bedtime. Not sure if that's normal but working pretty well for me. My LO also contact sleeps in the day so pumping after her early morning feed works best for me. She's 6 weeks old
It’s good to know you are also pumping 4 oz. My lo sleeps through a good portion of the night so when I pump at night I tend to freeze what I pump unless he wakes up sooner than 3 hours. To clarify, normally I pump twice a night 4 oz for first pump session around midnight and less, more like 2 oz for second session around 3am. My lo cluster feeds a lot in the late afternoon into evening. Not sure if it’s a supply issue or growth spurt.

Cluster feeding in the evening is so very normal! They're supposed to do that. Our supply in the evening is lower and it's supposed to be.
The formula feeds wouldn't be helping your supply.
Is there a reason you started these?
What made you think you couldn't provide for baby?
The best indication for supply is output and weight gain.
If baby is gaining weight and having at least 5-6 heavy wet nappies a day, your supply is fine.
Babies will feed for as long or as little as they want. The tugging and wriggling could be trapped gas.
My girl has typically fed 10 minutes per feed and only fed 1 side per feed. She's efficient.
initially started formula because he lost a lot of weight first day of life, but he gained it all back and then some. Doctor says he is gaining weight nicely and he pees and poops a ton. He just doesn’t give me any indication he is full sometimes and after a long feed he will still give hunger cues. Since he falls sleep at the breast a lot I feel like I have a hard time knowing if I is genuinely done or just accidentally fell asleep mid feed. I feel like the long feeds are cutting into his wake windows a lot and causing him to be over tired. Our pediatrician said to feed in whenever he is hungry so that’s what I do, but if he has been at the breast for 40 min or an hour and still giving hunger cues I give formula because I assume I must be empty.

It's so very normal for them to lose around 10% of their body weight after birth. It can typically take around 2 weeks to gain that back.
We're never truly empty. Our brests should make milk for our babes so long as there's a demand for it.
Given he's attached for so long, be could also be comfort sucking.
If he's falling asleep, he could be full. Enjoy the cuddles and if he wakes because he's hungry, offer the boob again.
He could also be giving hunger cues because he needs a burp.
My girl would have a trapped burp causing discomfort, so would want to feed. But would over feed if she didn't get the burp out and sometimes a feed would come up with the burp.
The best advice anyone can be given is to simply offer the boob. They get fed but also take comfort from being so close.
It's very likely that he doesn't need the formula. Offering it is also telling your body that he doesn't need that nutrition for that period of time, so it'll adjust accordingly.
this is super helpful and reassuring! Thank you ☺️

Try power pumping in the morning. I end up getting 3-4 oz which helps. I use the medela hands free pump
