Calpol for coughs?

My 5 month old has a cough that doesn't seem to be going away on its own. I wondered if it's ok to give him Calpol? It doesn't say on the leaflet it's a treatment specifically for coughs, it says pain and fever etc which he doesn't have, and it seems like there's a specific Calpol for coughs but I don't have any at home, the normal infant Calpol is all I have. Would that be ok to give?

It wouldn't do anything for a cough

Calpol wouldn’t do much for a cough! You’d be better finding something like calcough or infant benylin x

It won't do anything for a cough it's paracetamol.

When I cough, it hurts my throat so I would take paracetamol for the pain of the throat so I think it’s safe to assume your baby’s throat hurts too. I would give calpol for the pain of the throat and maybe some cough syrup of some sort. The calpol won’t cure the cough but it would help with a sore throat

There's cough medicines for young children that would be way more suited. I can't imagine calpol would do anything for the cough directly but would help with other symptoms - fever, sore throat etc.

We did but he had a barking cough and I was cautious it would be making him uncomfortable particularly at night. He was checked over by the GP who advised to keep on top with the calpol, if he’s feeling under the weather with it will likely make him feel abit better xx

When I spoke to my GP she said she didn't recommend cough stuff x

Cough medicine isn’t recommended. Doctors have told me that coughing is good because it’s the body’s way of keeping mucus out of the lungs. If he has mucus try to use a snot sucker, saline spray or humidifier.

It won’t help a cough and cough syrups aren’t recommend. I think all you can really do is wait for it to pass! I think the general advice is if they still have it after 3 weeks to see a gp in case they need antibiotics.

The company that does Calpol. Does a cough medicine which is called calcough. That's pretty good

Try Calcough

I’d recommend going to the drs as baby may need antibiotics x
