Haaka Pump

My baby is too small to breastfeed still so I've been pumping and giving her bottles with breast milk. I've been using an Ameda electric pump that I'm borrowing from a neighbor while I wait for my insurance-covered pump (Medela pump-in-style) to arrive. I also have two Haaka breast pumps, but haven't really used them. Can someone explain to me how the Haaka works? Would it be an effective way to pump while I'm exclusively pumping? I've noticed the electric pump has been kind of painful. I've tried different flange sizes and different setting, but it still hurts. Any advice for the Haaka pump would be very helpful. Thanks!!

My pediatrician wanted me to bottle feed at first too. Make sure you latch baby before or after a bottle! Just for a few minutes each time if you plan on ebf / bf at all. Everything is a little painful at first. I would just make sure you’re using the correct flange size and settings. Most pumps will have the most commonly used setting default. You just have to find what works for you! Even if I pump I usually let baby latch after because the pump isn’t as likely to prevent clogged ducts / mastitis!

her mouth is too small to latch. I've seen a couple lactation consultants and they've said I'll have to wait until she's a little bigger. The consultants also said I'm using the right size flange.

I’m sorry 😢 I thought you meant weight!
Pumping is honestly just kinda painful at first. Bf can be too. Once you do it for a while it gets easier! I used a Philips advent. There should be instructions in the manual or a video on YouTube you can watch! After a while you will figure out what works best for you! I started with the basic settings and went from there.

you're good! She was only 4 lbs 8 oz at birth. My nipples are too big for her small mouth to latch onto. But she'll try sometimes. She just can't get anything out and she gets frustrated.

ah poor babe! Ya’ll will both get the hang of it. Don’t give up! It’s so challenging to do but gets easier. I’m almost 6 months in. My baby started on bottles now refuses them 98% of the time. It’s tough but I’m trying to make it at least 1 year 🥲

she been doing amazing, she's just super tiny. I'm really hoping she'll be able to latch a lot easier when she's a bit bigger

I hope so!! Tommee tipped bottles are the only my baby & other ebf babies I know will take. Maybe they’d help the transition?

she's good with bottles. I mainly use Dr. Brown's

my baby took Dr. browns for 2-3 weeks. Then we went through 7 more before finding the one he takes now!

dang, I got she'll keep taking these ones if the Phillips Avent because that's the other type I have.

Squeeze it, then place it on the opposite side that you’re either not pumping/feeding from.

I would not be an effective tool to fully pump with. You’ll still need to pump a few more ounces after.

Flip the suction cup area and squeeze the bottom, put the opening over your nipple and flip the top over onto your boob, once that's suctioned on you can release the squeeze
