Kids with asthma

Hey mamas! Does anyone have kids with asthma ? My son is 4 and his asthma flares up pretty bad during the winter and when he's sick, it seems like everything he catches goes straight to his lungs, I've given him a nebulizer treatment but it don't seem to be helping much. Has anyone else gone through this and is there anything else I can do, is it also ok to give him the treatments every 2 hours instead of 4 ? I'll be calling his dr tomorrow but in the meantime my poor baby is coughing his head off. Picture so we don't get lost ❤️

What are you giving him? Also no stick with the 3 times a day for albuterol, it will make him jittery. Also you can give him a daily dose of an allergy medicine to help combat the mucus. If you would like, speak to them about budesonide, helps with prevent the constant flare ups. Netti bottle with distilled water helps clear any extra mucus to also help him breathe better

I've been giving him albuterol in the nebulizer, and zarbees cough medicine and he also gets Flovent 2x daily as a preventative

Also, keep away from any strong odors that irritates my daughter. I also like to warn parents with kids with asthma, if the wants to give him a medicine called montelukast, be aware it's a black box warning medicine. While it helps with asthma, it can change the child behavior. My daughter became physical aggressive, and I stopped it. Took weeks for it to be out of her system and her to return back to normal.

Try allegra or zyrtec, i have learned allergy medicine helps a lot with kids with asthma. And sadly, I am still learning

No odors or sprays, and I've never heard of it but I'll be sure to make sure he don't get it

You can give it a try, it's a 50:50 chance he may or may not react that way, I will say it helped but she was affected in that way

Also try zarbees elderberry and zinc gummies, helps to fight off all the germs

I'm asthmatic myself when I'm sick steam helps alot obviously getting a 4 year old to lean over a cup of tea but if you turn the shower on hot as possible then sit on the toilet in the steam with him just breathing to help break up the stuff in his lungs

that's probably the only thing I haven't done but I will give it a try

Steam helps incredibly either from a make shift steam room from running water in the bathroom.. Also, a humidifier in the bedroom when sleeping does wonders with breathing - however if you live somewhere with high humidity a dehumidifier might be needed.

The above remedies help me as a kid with asthma

Hi nurse here, don't give albuterol more than prescribed. Albuterol is known to increase the heart rate, cause jitteriness, and more anxiety if given excessively.

Are you connected with a pulmonologist? If not, he needs one. My first advice is to go to the ER. Sounds like he might be having an asthma exacerbation due to the constant cough and no relief of symptoms. Does he sound super wheezy? Blue/purple tinge to the lips, inside of his mouth, or fingernails/tips? If you feel like you need more guidance on what to do, call the after hours/on call line at their doctors office.

my daughter took motelukast and she never had any behavioral issues! But I know every kid is different but she was on it for years

I was just gonna say the ame thing I mean I’m no nurse or doctor but my daughter has had asthma and allergies since she was 2 and she’s 18 now. Definitely sounds like a trip to the ER so he may end up getting some relief
