will antibiotics ruin my milk supply?

i’m exclusively pumping and have what i assume is mastitis (pain in left boob, red marks spreading into armpit, lowered milk output, fever and full body aches). i have an appointment at urgent treatment. i have a small milk stash in the freezer but worry that if my supply reduces too much i will have to supplement and i don’t want that. any advice is appreciated♥️

I just looked up the common antibiotic used for breastfeeding with mastitis ( Flucloxacillin) and it says “Trace amounts in milk, but appropriate to use.” I would of course double check with the dr . I was on multiple antibiotics pregnant so I assume that there’s always a way.

I’m in the same situation. Got mastitis maybe 5 days ago now pretty badly (high fever, plus the rest of it). I’ve been on antibiotics for it. My supply definitely went down, but not sure if that’s the antibiotics or the actual mastitis. Today it seems like it might be coming back up again, so here’s hoping 🤞

I’ve had mastitis in each boob now and supply dropped because of it not the antibiotics. Supply went back to normal within a week of the mastitis clearing in my right which I caught early and my left was maybe 20ml less a pump for 3 weeks after the mastitis went.

The antibiotics won’t ruin your supply. It’s the mastitis that causes the decrease. I had it like 5 times during my pumping journey 😅

Make sure you ask the doctor for a milk safe antibiotic.
