So my MIL won’t let me stay once baby is here (even though she said me and my husband could live here for as long as we need) so me and my husband have applied for houses/flats and we’ve got a few in mind so today I sat down made her a coffee felt like I was running about after her making her food and whatnot, she shouted from across the room “so what was that phone call about as I’ve heard my sons name” and I explained that we were going to bid for houses as we think it’s time to go on and move out and with the dirtiest look on her face she said “he’s not moving in with you” “he can stay from time to time but he’s not moving in” I took this to heart and sort of agreed but why do I feel like I should say something but I want to stay quiet” and as I’m writing this he’s got a day off work on Wednesday for my appointment and she’s says “this is why he can’t move out because I need him to take me to my appointment” which she would have been told no if he was at work ladies I’m at my wits end should I get a house by myself or do it with my husband 🙏🏻

Do it with ur husband! U need to set ur boundary & tell ur husband about it so he is fully aware and able to sort it out with his mum.
I feel like she will step in it’s like I can’t have a life with him it’s so frustrating because I keep taking it out on him this isn’t the first time we’ve argued about his mum xx

Absolutely with your husband if that’s both what you want. A grown man should be able to set boundaries with his mother and ensure she’s not speaking to you like that also. Seems very odd that she wants her grown son to be living with her and not with his own family he’s created. The choice is never hers to make x

Sounds ridiculous she doesn't want her son to live with his wife and child. As someone else has said I think it's time for him to set some boundaries with her. He doesn't need to live with her to be around to take her to appointments or whatever. But she shouldn't be dictating how a grown man lives his life nor should she be telling you how your relationship is going to work. Once the babies here you'll need his support a lot more than she will and you and baby should be his priority 100%

She sounds like a very selfish woman and absolutely nuts to put it bluntly. Your husband needs to be stern with her and not back down, you and baby are his priority not his mother and he needs to tell her that directly. Calmly explain this to him and tell him you want him to do it asap otherwise you will start getting angrier at both and it will put a wedge between you. Believe me I have been there to the point where I didn’t say anything and she tried going into the labour ward for her son 🙄 and I snapped at her to back off (I was mid labour) but I wish I’d of done it sooner. Good luck and stand your ground!
Thanks everyone it will 100% be sorted as I will not be walked all over like this xx

Your husband should be speaking up here. He is a grown adult and should be able to move where he likes. Also your phone conversations are none of her fucking business - tell her to mind her own. Set boundaries now (and stick to them!!!) because when baby is here it’ll only get worse and she will get more controlling and walk all over you/cross boundaries. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this monster in law x

Your husband should really be putting you first in this situation - honestly boundaries are important. If I voice any problems with my husband about my MIL since we got married it’s always a huge disagreement as unless he agrees with me it’s a nightmare. I’m at a point now where if it happens I’ll just speak to her myself because we get no where otherwise and the same issues keep repeating. Men really do need to learn again that if you have a partner and family they are the first priority
