Hi mamas! My 8-month old daughter has been doing great on solids so far but doesn’t show much interest in drinking water.
She’s constipated at present (her first time, so worried that she isn’t eating much cuz of that since yesterday night) and I have been giving her this Nuk bottle a few times a day to try to at least get some hydration in.
She would lie down while playing with it and when puts it in her mouth to chew, she only gets a few drops in, but that’s it.
How or what products (sippy/straw cups/bottles) did you use/introduce for your LOs to get them more interested in drinking water?
Also, would really appreciate any suggestions to ease her constipation. Not sure if I should give her prune juice, if yes, which brand to get (no added sugar). Thank you!

I gave my baby straight from the water bottle. He seemed more interested on it.

Definitely give some prunes just buy some and blend them and add them to something like porridge or something she likes!

Try a tiny cup. We literally did a shit glass type cup and I think he just thought it was cool.

She’s been formula fed (Kendamil) since around 5 months. Its been a day although I noticed rabbit poos today (she was uncomfortable while pooping, and she’s not cranky most of the time)

My daughter went off water around the same time, we tried all sorts. I ended up making a big bottle of water in the fridge with frozen fruit in to infuse the water overnight and she loves it.
With constipation, the prune and pear fruit pouches worked great with us. You could also try watermelon in the fruit dummies, she can chew away and get the fluid from that 🥰

Try different cups, they may find another cup more attractive. Straw cups with weight and open cups are the best for them.
If she is not much into water, try giving her oranges, pear, blueberries, etc. Or don't be afraid to talk to your GP and get a mild laxative prescribed.

Thanks for your reply, which ones did you use?

I used the Honeybear straw cup and my son loved that! But also maybe offer your water with a straw. My son was always drinking my Stanley and still does.

I'd recommend either an open cup like the ones from bibado, they're small and weighted. Or the tum tum straw cup. We kinda use both. Also you can buy pouches of prunes if that makes things easier. Like the others have said mix it into some porridge or yoghurt or something. Hope things get better for you soon!

NHS advised me to get a tommee tippee free flowing cup to start with to help teach them how to sip properly. So far my 7MO is enjoying it!

Maybe a splash of apple juice will help . Add a little flavor maybe it will interest her more. I also noticed my daughter likes her water supper cold.

My son (12 months) didn't like prune juice when we tried when he was constipated. After that I tried apple juice, and also massaging his stomach, clockwise starting at his belly button and moving outwards.
I'm not entirely sure how to help with the water drinking, we tried so many things, open cup, from a sippy cup, from a bottle, and a water bottle with a straw, I'm not sure which worked but he loves drinking water from a straw bottle now and does it so easily.

I second this. We use the Honeybear straw cups and it’s a lifesaver!

I started using this one when my daughter was about 5 months. She loved it https://amzn.to/4fo5zCm

I would incorporate more fruits into her diet. It will increase fiber and give some extra hydration as well. I hope she feels better.

am now planning to get some! ❤️

Thank you all so much! I gave her seedless oranges purée this morning with its fibres) and she ate a few spoons of it and afterwards gave her a warm bath (after a massage) she definitely ate better just now! (Semolina added with dates puree, she loves it 💯) You all gave such great advices, I will purchase a few asap🤗 🫶🏾

My daughter is 15m old and we still struggle to get her drinking water we’ve literally got a water bottle collection. Tried everything she just won’t drink if she’s not thirsty. So I’d say don’t worry if she wanted to she would drink water x
Regarding prune juice highly recommend for constipation you can buy the Ella’s kitchen pouches which is organic and comes in pure form if you want juice you can just dialoute it with water x

Thank you, Yaren!

We use the smaller version of this, the 5oz one, and started with a bit of milk in the cup and then switched to water and it helped a lot! We also stick to offering it mostly when he’s eating so he doesn’t associate it with playing as much 🙂

my little girl refused to drink out of her own cup and just likes to use my water bottle. she drinks so much now where as before she’d have a few little sips

Try a straw cup. For constipation yes they need to drink water alongside their food but half a pouch a day of yogurt has helped him go regular soft poops he’s hardly ever constipated. (He does love water though) I buy a huge tub for myself and refill into reusable pouches for him, wash and refill, leave in fridge to grab and go, take home wash and refill and repeat. He’s had the same 10 pouches for 5yrs he’s still using them. You can get silicone ones too, Hakaa brand.

Try an open cup! Help her at first, but you can also just give her a small amount in a cup for her to try to drink out of. It’s fun! It’ll be messy, but that’s how they learn! We always did that to make sure they drink water with their meals. Then we transition to a straw cup! We use playtex with handles; both my boys loved them.
As for constipation-just try prune pouches! Or pear works well for us too. We would mix half of a pouch or so into oatmeal or yogurt and it always did the trick. My doctor also just recommended cherries as well!

Dr browns sippy cup straw cups!! My daughter loves the straw cups
